Hair How-To: Lucy Liu’s Textured Pony

Let’s be honest: Step one to getting Lucy Liu’s look is to be born Lucy Liu. Unfortunately, we can’t help you with that. While none of us can change our genetics, here’s how to get the rest of her style for yourself.

Lucy hit the red carpet for the Independent Spirit Awards last weekend looking amazing (as always) in a Roberto Cavalli dress and hair by Moroccanoil. “It was important for the hair to look free rather than smooth and dangling, but not frizzy,” said Lucy’s stylist Enzo Angileri. “The look incorporated waves within texture, and had a sensual Brigitte Bardot feeling.”

1. Get Texture Without Frizz
To get the look, Angileri started by applying Moroccanoil Frizz Control to damp hair, to help eliminate frizz. Then he applied a small amount of Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream and blow-dried with a round ceramic brush. To create the volumized pony, Angileri used a curling iron to create a natural-looking curl in random sections of hair, and teased the roots of the hair with a comb as he secured the ponytail with an elastic. He finished with a spritz of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong to help keep the style in place. (Moroccanoil.com for salons)
2. Let Your Natural Skin Shine
For an easy day look like this, a light-coverage foundation or BB Cream provides just enough camouflage for blemishes or uneven skin tone without seeming fake or unnatural. We love Benefit’s new Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Brightening Makeup, which offers lightweight buildable coverage and SPF 25. ($34, Benefitcosmetics.com)  Finish with a swipe of one of this season’s hottest hues—terracotta—on the cheeks. Try Benefit’s One Hot Minute shimmering face powder, which gives a bronzy-golden glow to the face, décolleté, shoulders, or anywhere else. ($30, Benefitcosmetics.com)
3. Finish Simple
This look doesn’t need a lot of bells and whistles. Finish up with a swipe your favorite tawny brown shadow on your eyelids (we love JK Jemma Kidd I-Style Pro Duo in Capri, $18 at Target) and two coats of your favorite black mascara. Then top with a nourishing lip gloss like Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Treatment, which protects lips with SPF 15 while delivering juicy shine. ($22, Fresh.com)
