Messy Fishtail Braid

Try this messy fishtail braid at your next morning outing. This easy-breezy DIY style will get your morning off to a fashionable start with a hint of edgy gold!

Messy Fishtail Braid

Follow these easy steps to create a one-of-a-kind, messy fishtail braid. The extra tips for sparkle will keep your look vibrant and fresh. Here's how.

Messy Fishtail Braid

1. Brush your hair to one side using fingers to keep things looking organic. Using your fingers will keep your messy fishtail braid modern and loose looking. I added curl and wave to the model's hair before getting started by using a clipless iron and a large barrel curling iron. This technique keeps the style more playful. Tie a side pony with an elastic band, and start forming a tight two-strand fishtail by grabbing hair from one strand and transferring it to the remaining strand. Once you reach the bottom of your fishtail, secure it with an elastic.

2. Pull at the sides of your braid to fatten and deconstruct strands. Tease at your ends (near the base of your lower rubber band) to hold your braided style in place, and cut the rubber band off. Secure the style in place by crisscrossing pins on the underside of your braid. This technique will create a texture-rich, eye-catching look.

3. For extra dazzle, add small groupings of shiny gold hairpins at the bottom, middle, and end of your braid, accessorizing your overall style and keeping strands in place. Cut the remaining rubber band at the top, and accessorize any loose ends with additional gilded pins.
