How to Create a Downton Abbey-Inspired Updo
by Maggie Niemiec
Alberto VO5 hair expert Chris Lospalluto shows you how to get Crawley-chic in just six easy steps.
Downton Abbey Updo Step 1
You’ll look retro and romantic with this Downton-inspired updo. Start with a center part and straight hair that hasn’t been washed for a day or two. Divide your hair into three even sections at the back of the head.
Downton Abbey Updo Step 2
Make each of the three sections into ponytails at the nape of the neck.
Downton Abbey Updo Step 3
Take one ponytail and roll the hair up toward your head. Use a large bobby pin to anchor it to your head and add four or five smaller bobby pins around the roll.
Downton Abbey Updo Step 4
Do the same with the other two ponytails. Make sure the rolls are close together.
Downton Abbey Updo Step 5
Pinch two of the rolls together and secure with a hair pin. Then pinch the other two rolls together and secure. Pin the sides, top, and bottom of the rolls until you form one connected roll and it feels secure.
Downton Abbey Updo Step 6
Finish with light-hold hairspray to set the style. If you find that the top or the front is too tight, use a comb or your fingers to loosen the style and give it a more romantic look.
Downton Abbey Updo Step 7
Add a jeweled headband at your forehead for an extra dose of 1920s-era glamour.
