How to Do Twisted Chignons with Short Hair
by Maggie Niemiec
Who says long-haired ladies get to have all the fun? Alberto VO5 hair expert, Chris Lospalluto, shows you how to create a fabulous twisted chignon for short hair in seven easy steps.
Short Hair Chignon Step 1
Start with hair that has not been washed in a day — this will allow for some texture. If you don’t have much natural texture, try curling your hair and applying a light spritz of hairspray before you begin. Use a comb to create a side part.
Short Hair Chignon Step 2
Push all your hair to the back behind your ears and divide it into three even sections. Grab one section on the end and twist it around itself.
Short Hair Chignon Step 3
Stick a hair pin straight into this twisted knot to secure it.
Short Hair Chignon Step 4
Twist the other two sections around themselves. Be sure to pin the knots evenly along the neckline.
Short Hair Chignon Step 5
Pull the knots apart a little. Don’t worry if the ends come out — it will look more natural.
Short Hair Chignon Step 6
Pull the twisted knots together and pin them so they look like one knot. This step is key to upgrade the style from little girl to modern woman.
Short Hair Chignon Step 7
Continue to pull the knots apart to make the hairstyle look soft. Finish with a spritz of hairspray, and your stylish short-hair updo is complete!
