Shop Story

Straight, wavy, curly or coiled—this hair hero can repair it all.

You know those products that become absolute game-changers? The ones that make you go: How have I survived without this until now? Well, I’ve hit that point with this $36 Sephora find on two separate occasions—once when I first tried it, and again when I realized I ran out of this deep-conditioning treatment.

If you’re dying to know, I’m gushing about Don’t Despair, Repair!, the deep conditioning hair cap system by Briogeo. The box comes with four individually packaged treatments, with a dose of the turbo-charged hair mask and a micro-oil lined cap in each.

After seeing beauty bloggers all over Instagram sporting shower caps en robe, raving about the restorative and strengthening powers of Briogeo’s latest addition to its repair collection, I was intrigued. As someone with bleached, brittle hair from years of balayage upkeep and heat styling, my locks were in desperate need of some love.

I’ve tried many deep conditioners, and they’ve left my hair greasy and weighed down. Using the two-step system for the first time, I decided the recommended amount of conditioner was too much for my fine hair. Since my hair was feeling extra grimy, I went with my favorite exfoliating shampoo to get rid of any previous buildup and towel-dried my hair. Still wet, I applied half the packet of lightly floral-scented conditioner from root to tip (simultaneously doubling the number of treatments—pro tip).

Now for step two: putting on the nourishing cap to lock in and enhance the hair healing powers of Briogeo’s hero mask. The package suggests leaving the treatment on anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes (could you be a little more specific?). Leaning on the side of caution, I decided 20 minutes was enough.

After a mere 20 minutes, I rinsed my hair with warm water and immediately noticed how soft and silky my once-tired tresses were. So good I couldn’t help compulsively touching my hair. The next morning, my split ends were visibly better, partnered with hair commercial shine.

Since, I’ve used the hair treatment two more times, leaving it on for the full 60 minutes with no hitch. Though it’s hard to say 100 percent, my hair seemed softer the longer I left the cap on.

The magic of this hair mask might come from the 98 percent naturally-derived formulation, made with rosehip oil, which helps hydrate hair cuticles, and a cocktail of nourishing and moisturizing algae extract, almond oil, and B-vitamins. It could be the pink cap, taking the Allure Reader’s Choice Award-winning conditioner to the next level. Or maybe it’s all the Instagram hype that makes me want to snap a post-shower selfie.

I’m not saying that it will solve all hair problems, but based on my own transformation and reviews from women with straight, wavy, curly, and tightly coiled hair, it looks like this two-step treatment really works. If you have dry, damaged, or chemically-treated hair, I’d get ahold of this hair mask ASAP. After just three uses, you’ll be amazed at how healthy your hair can be again.
