The 9 Best Mascaras to Try
These are my top tried-and-true, must-have, best mascaras! Big or small, drugstore or high end—I've tried them all. Whether you want length, volume, separation or all three, there's a mascara for you! Finding the right combo of brush style and formula is key. These nine mascaras totally deliver.
Buxom Amplified Lash Mascara is unique because the wand is a transformer! A spring mechanism inside allows you to twist the wand handle to lengthen the brush and space the bristles out. Twist the opposite way to condense the bristles for volume!
Full and Sexy Lashes
I still remember the first time I tried the cult-favorite Dior Diorshow. I applied it at a stoplight (don’t judge), and I was floored. Until this point, I had never used a “nice” mascara, and I remember thinking, It really is everything they say! It gives you full, lush, and long-looking lashes.
For Natural, Curled Lashes
The Eyeko Curvy Brush Mascara wand looks really cool, but more importantly, it is easy to use! The formula is non-clumping, even after multiple coats. It lengthens just enough and offers nice definition and curl! I like to wear this on errand days or to the gym so I don’t look too “done.”
Long and Fluttery Lashes
Being a contact lens wearer, I was wary of fiber formulas, but I fell in love with L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lash. It contains small fibers to thicken and lengthen lashes with every coat. I definitely see more length and love this non-clumping formula!
Tarte Lights Camera Lashes is what you need to grab if you like doing multiple coats. More lengthening than volumizing, it creates feathery lashes with zero clumps! If you have sensitive eyes, you’ll love this.
Best All Around
They’re Real! Mascara is the mascara I suggest when someone claims they’ve tried them all and nothing works. This mascara volumizes, lengthens like mad, separates and boy, does it stay! I have never had it smudge or flake, and I’ve had more than one person actually ask me if my eyelashes are real! The magic is in the brush: The spiky plastic bristles and ball on the top grab both corner lashes and lower lashes! When I worked at Sephora, this product was never returned. Now that’s a good mascara!
Naturally Thick Lashes
I’m convinced this mascara is why I won Best Eyes in my high school. I discovered L’Oreal Voluminous clear back in high school and continue to keep it in my client kit today! The brush is slim enough to get in the corners and swipes cleanly from the tube every time with the perfect amount of product. It volumizes while lengthening, too. There’s a reason this has stood the test of time!
L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes
If you don’t want to drop $23 for Benefit’s They’re Real!, L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes is where it’s at! This is the closest mascara I’ve found to They’re Real!, and though the staying power isn’t quite as great, the results are: length, volume and separation all in a pretty gold tube!
I use Maybelline Lash Discovery on my bottom lashes. The brush is beyond perfect for coating those lashes without gooping too much on. It looks natural and defined but never spidery! It’s a great dupe for the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara!
