Award-Winning Beauty Looks from the CFDA Awards
Fashion was, of course, the main topic of the night at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards Monday, June 3, but the many fashionistas and designers that attended the event know a thing or two about beauty as well. Our favorite look of the night? The statement red lip combined with a summer tan. Click through for more of our favorites and take note!
Things I covet about Sofia Vergara: her hourglass figure, her killer sense of humor, and her lush eyelashes. The first two may be God-given gifts, but I can tell you how to recreate those fantastically full eyelashes. False eyelashes are always great for a special event, but the key to making them look real is to use a pack that you can apply individually lash by lash. If you're new to falsies, just make sure to trim your set to go out no further than the end of your natural brow line.
Kerry Washington mastered the "no makeup" makeup look to create an ethereal radiance. The trick to the Scandal star's look is to use lightweight, sheer foundations and blushes, as well as neutral eyeshadows and lip color. For the final touch, blend everything together with a medium-sized blending brush.
We’ve all had those days when there isn’t enough caffeine or concealer in the world to hide the bags beneath our eyes, but Jessica Chastain’s bright-eyed look helped her appear awake and radiant at the CFDA awards. The fair-faced beauty used a shimmery white eyeshadow and natural liner. However, those of us with darker skin tones have to be wary of white shadow or risk looking like a '90s flashback! Try using just a hint at the inner corners of the eyes to really make them pop.
We're all for trying out new trends and crazes in the beauty world, but Vera Wang knows what few forget. If you have a signature look that works, flaunt it! Vera wore her signature black locks straight and sleek for her big night. (She was honored with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award!) To try out Vera's look on your own mane, try spritzing your tresses with a frizz-free shine serum before blow-drying.
When she's not hiding it under her ski helmet, Lindsey Vonn has quite a lust-worthy head of hair! The World Cup champion accented her Cynthia Rowley gown with loosely cascading curls. For the same loose look, try leaving your ends out of the curling iron to create a more natural texture.
Karlie Kloss dropped jaws at this event. Granted, she's a supermodel and was wearing a down-to-there dress, but it was her just-came-from-the-beach, sun-kissed look that caught our attention. If you've been sporting more of a just-came-from-the-office palor, try one of the many sunless tanners on the market. Brands are now coming out with foam versions of their original lotions to help cut down on streaking.
Rock royalty's Nicole Richie showed off a look that was full-out glam! The House of Harlow designer balanced out her metallic dress and bold red lips with a simple slicked-back hairstyle. Avoid a greasy look by creating the style when your hair is still wet, then use a pomade or hairspray to keep the wet look throughout the night.
Miranda Kerr never looks anything short of flawless and the night of the CFDA awards was no exception. Miranda captured the attention of, well, everyone, with her expertly flushed cheeks. For extra staying power, apply your cream or powder blush first before dusting over top with translucent powder.
Rooney Mara channeled her inner Snow White, rocking ruby red lips and a soft white eye shadow, but it was her side swept chignon that had me digging through my drawers of product and practicing in the mirror. To copy the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star’s elegant style, part hair deeply to one side and gather at the nape of the neck while it’s still wet. Secure hair with polyband hair ties to avoid breakage and separate the ponytail into four sections. Twist the sections in the style you prefer and then wrap the ends back toward the hair tie. Secure with bobby pins and hairspray and voila!
Lip color is my all-around favorite beauty product. It’s the one product I actually experiment with, rather than always sticking to my old favorites, and after seeing Elizabeth Olsen’s just-bitten-looking lips at the CFDA awards, I’m eager to try out some new colors. For a fresh pucker when using lip stain, exfoliate lips first with a sugar scrub or warm washcloth.
