Sounds the alarms because there is some major Serena Williams news: The greatest athlete in the world right now is also looking to be a champion in the beauty industry. TMZ reports that Williams has filed legal paperwork to launch her own makeup and skincare line. Um, can we have it right now please?
The tennis champion and new mother trademarked the name "Aneres"—which is “Serena” spelled backward—in January. According to the paperwork, the trademark will apply to a seriously lengthy list of beauty products: lipstick, lip gloss, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, powder, foundation, makeup remover, skincare, body lotion, shampoo, dry shampoo, hair rinses, hairspray, hair gel, cologne and perfume, makeup cases, and makeup brushes. Whew.
It seems the champion is ready to take her talent to another arena.
So when will this gold medal-level skincare and makeup—seriously, do you think it will be designed to stand up to Olympic-level sweating?—hit shelves? There’s no official information from Serena Williams herself yet, but we can look to Kim Kardashian West’s line as a precedent. In February 2017, Kardashian-West filed her paperwork and KKW Beauty officially launched July 21 of that year. If that timeline is consistent, we can hope to expect the Aneres beauty line in June.
It’s been a several months for the tennis superstar already on and off the court. Serena married Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian in November 2017 after giving birth to her first daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in September 2017.
