If the cost of hiring a professional makeup artist has dashed your wedding day dreams, then you’ll love this DIY wedding face tutorial.

If there’s one day in your life when you want to look like a million bucks, it’s your wedding day. But no one wants to break the bank to look her bridal best.

The expenses associated with a professional makeup artist for your wedding day can run anywhere from $150 to $400. Expensive, right? I’ve put together a tutorial for the bride who wants to look absolutely radiant, but stay within her budget. I’m using a lot of products–and yes, it costs money to buy everything you need–but, if you already have a decent selection of products and tools in your makeup kit, you’ll be able to get a beautiful result for less than it costs to hire a pro. Bonus: If you buy some new products that set you back a bit, that’s okay. They are yours to keep and use again and again (unlike hiring a pro for the day).

My best tip for bridal makeup? Amp up the glam, but look like yourself. Don’t use too much black or gray. Instead, stick to warmer tones like brown, rose, and champagne. If you’ve got blue eyes and fair skin, tone down the darker colors so the makeup doesn’t overwhelm your face! Also, skin preparation for a bridal look is key. I used a Vitamin C serum with the Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum and followed with the Heir Atelier Ultimate Make Up Prep. I love the Heir Atelier primer because it not only keeps your makeup in place, but it’s got good-for-your-skin properties that will keep you looking fresh and hydrated as well. As for lashes, you can opt for strip lashes like I did (I used the House of Lashes style in Pixie Luxe), or try individual false lashes for an even more natural look.
