Makeup Inspiration: Fresh Flowers From Your Eyeshadow Palette

Look to nature for some of the best makeup inspiration out there. A gorgeous hydrangea inspired a spring floral look that's easy to recreate. Here's how.

Even those of us that eat, sleep, and breathe makeup lack inspiration at times. If you feel like you've been doing the same smoky eye, been married to the same tired liner, and hitting the pan on your favorite shadow colors, then it might be time to try something fresh. Look to the blooms of spring to shake the makeup doldrums.

To create this hydrangea-inspired look, you will need:

  • A warm matte brown crease color, or a bronzer like Too Faced Chocolate Soleil
  • Pale lilac eye shadow like Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Asphyxia
  • Pale blue eye shadow like bareMinerals Eyecolor in Azure
  • Violet pencil eye liner Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Vice
  • Black mascara like LORAC Pro Mascara
  • Matte, pale pink lip color like NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul

Here's how to get the look:

  1. Begin by applying a warm, matte brown shadow to the crease with a crease brush. I start virtually every single eye look this way.
  2. Using a flat shader brush, apply a lilac shadow all over the lid.
  3. Now take a smaller shader brush and place a shimmery blue shadow on the inner and outer corner of the eye.
  4. Take a blending brush and softly diffuse the blue into the lilac. You want a soft transition and no hard lines where one color ends and meets the other.
  5. Line the inner rim of the lower lid and upper lash line with a violet pencil liner and smudge.
  6. Apply a generous coat of mascara to both top and bottom lashes.
  7. Finish your spring look with a pale pink lip.

The rest of the time, I'm creating content for my makeup and beauty blog, Wake Up for Makeup, reading product reviews, watching tutorial videos and reading makeup artist books. I live and breathe this stuff and if you could eat makeup, I'd probably do that too. I also love painting abstracts, running, attending music festivals and acting weird with my husband and our two awesome cats. I'm here to tell you what products are legit, how to better use the ones you have, give you ideas to shake up your routine and guide you through some fun tutorials I know you can dominate.
