How to Fake a Nose Job with Makeup

Don't love your nose? That's okay. There's no need to get a nose job. Follow these makeup tips and tricks to make your nose appear straighter, shorter, or smaller. No surgery required!

How to Fake a Nose Job

I know few girls who absolutely love their nose. Most wish theirs was just a little thinner, shorter, or more like a favorite celebrity's nose. But before you consider a nose job, you should know you can reshape yours with makeup. It's painless and a lot cheaper! And the best part: It's not permanent. (We like you just the way you are.)

You will need:

  • Cream bronzer or concealer several shades darker than your skin tone. If using a cream bronzer, just make sure it has no orange undertone. I used Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Cream Bronzer in Rich Bronze, which blends so nicely.
  • Concealer several shades lighter than your skin tone. I'm using NARS Concealer in Pear.
  • A small synthetic brush and a clean blending brush to soften lines such as the Real Techniques Shading Brush.
  • If extra highlighting is desired, a liquid luminizer such as Stila's All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminzer in Kitten.

Here's how to do it:

First, find where the natural shadows lie on either side of your nose. Using a small synthetic brush and cream bronzer or concealer, draw a gradual line farther in than your natural shadow. Use the bridge of your nose as a center line, placing a new shadow on either side. I like to start my line from the inside end of my brow, heading down toward the tip.

Connect your lines on the underside of the nose, forming a diamond shape. If you want to shorten a long nose, place a bit of shadow underneath the tip. Blend out with a clean, synthetic brush to soften the lines.

Now take your concealer and draw a very thin line down the bridge of your nose, and add a small dab on the end. Blend with your finger. Take special care not to create a wide highlight because that will make the nose appear larger.

Use the same concealer to draw a fan shape on either side of the nose. Brightening up this area will make the shadows you created pop out even more. Make sure to blend everything carefully. Use a liquid luminizer like Stila's All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminzer in Kitten for an extra pop of highlight, and set with a translucent powder.

Tip and Tricks

  • Powder works to highlight and contour your nose as well. Just make sure you use a very light hand and a cool-toned bronzer or shadow.
  • If you have a bump or crooked nose (I have a bit of a bump on one side), just place the shadow over it and fight against the curvature to minimize it.
  • Make sure not to place your shadow lines too wide or you'll potentially make your nose look wider.
