Fresh from the Runway: NYFW Makeup Trends

New York Fashion Week gives us our first peek at what we'll be wearing for fall 2014. Check out some of the makeup looks that caught our eye.

New York Fashion Week is fashion–and so much more: the hair, the nails, and honey, tha makeup. Minimalism was everywhere: Nearly bare skin and lips were accentuated with one statement look, such as a bright liner or a bold lip. What was absent from the fall 2014 shows? Heavy contouring.

Here are some of my favorite fresh faces from NYFW plus tips for wearing the runway in real life.

BCBG Max Azria
I love burgundy shadows, so I was instantly attracted to the look at BCBG Max Azria matte textures and subtle contouring. Combined with bare lips, it created a look that's lived-in sexy.
Runway for real life: Try sweeping a wine shadow only in the crease rather than all over the lid. This will give you the effect without feeling too vampire with the Sephora Colorful Eyeshadow Matte in Red Wine.

The green-tinged gold glitter eyes look so fresh when paired with minimal makeup and nude lips.
Runway for real life: Try a thin line of gold glitter liner like Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner along the top lashline. For a bolder look, press a light coat of loose glitter like Make Up For Ever Diamond Powder in Gold all over the lid, concentrating the bulk of the glitter at the lashline and fading upwards.

Creatures of the Wind
I love that bright liners aren't going away any time soon. Sky blue in the waterline brightens up the whites of the eyes and brings a little fun to your face. The rest of the look is bare, with just a bit of peachy gloss on the lips.
Runway for real life: This look is easy to wear. Line the inner rim with a liner like Obsessive Compulsive Colour Pencil in Pool Boy.

Rebecca Minkoff
I'm glad that deep lip colors are in full force! This deep wine hue looks pretty with lush, dark lashes and strong brows.
Runway for real life: A lip stain will look matte and last through happy hour and a dinner date. One of my favorites is Sephora's Rouge Infusion Lip Ink in Ruby Extract.

Nicole Miller
The eyes at Nicole Miller were smoky to death and super sexy. I love the gunmetal sheen with a touch of amethyst. So pretty! What makes this smoky eye extra dramatic is bringing the color nearly all the way up to the brows. I also enjoy the unexpected peach tone on the lips.
Runway for real life: Apply a metallic charcoal shadow first like Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow in Iridescent Anthracite followed by a little Urban Decay pressed at the corners. Try Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Gravity. For lips, keep it simple with Maybelline Baby Lips in Peach Kiss.

Marissa Webb
The look at Marissa Webb referenced the 1960s beautifully. The emphasis was on lashes and a pale, nearly lavender pout.
Runway for real life: Enhance your lashes with a natural pair like Ardell 110's Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tar in Digitalis will duplicate the lip shade.

Rag & Bone
Emphasis on liner is going strong! The eye look at Rag & Bone was a stylized, unconventional cat eye. Bringing the liner into the crease creates a modern, cut-crease effect.
Runway for real life: Try bringing your winged liner into your crease, but only a flick. No need to take it all the way. Make sure to use a waterproof liquid liner like Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner to ensure no transferring occurs.

Diane Von Furstenberg
The mauve meets purple shadow at Diane Von Furstenberg makes me drool! The skin looks healthy, and the subtle pink-stained lips give just enough color to balance out the look.
Runway for real life: It's easy to replicate a rosy look with Tarte's Be MATTEnificent Amazonian Colored Clay Matte Eye Palette and Stila Lip & Cheek Stain in Yumberry for lips.
