Get A Flawless Highlight Without Looking Oily
Struggling to get your glow on without feeling sort of greasy? This tutorial shows you how to nail a flawless, healthy-looking highlight without looking sweaty in your selfies.
Who isn't desperate to pull off the perfect highlight? Unfortunately, the magical makeup can sometimes walk a very fine line between looking like a healthy, youthful glow, or looking like a greasy, glittery mess. The trick to pulling off the perfect highlight is knowing which areas you want to attract light to and which areas to avoid. It's also important to keep your highlight minimal for a look that's truly glowing and natural.
If you're new to using highlighter, it's best to start slow and use only a small amount of product. As you become more confident and precise, you can build your highlighter to achieve the right amount of shimmer for you. Highlighter comes in a wide range of colors (from almost transparent to rainbow hues) and a variety of formulas (powder, cream, and liquid). Be sure to choose a shade that complements your skin tone, and a formula that works well with your skin type.
Follow these three easy steps to nail your highlight:
1. Apply a highlighter to the tops of the cheekbones—not the apple or hollow of your cheek—gently moving up toward your temple. We used TYRA Beauty Light In A Stick Highlighter in Pearlescent Champagne, $25.
2. Lightly dot highlighter on the center of your nose. Avoid the sides of the nostrils or "t-zone" above the nose, which can both look oily naturally.
3. Dot highlighter on the Cupid's bow of the lips and blend gently.
And that's it! Keeping your highlight simple, and in areas that naturally reflect light, but don't naturally collect oil, is the trick to keeping your glow healthy and natural looking. Going overboard, especially if your skin is prone to greasiness, will end up looking slick—not chic. Go get your glow on, girl.
