If you’re old enough to remember her as the adorable little girl from Signs, this picture may shock you. Abigail Breslin is all grown up.
At this week’s Los Angeles premiere of New Year’s Eve, fifteen-year-old Breslin stunned in a white tulle dress with gold beading from Marchesa, and she sported a smashing makeup look that’s youthful but sophisticated, and should have everyone running out to buy blue eye shadow. Here’s how to get this colorful, party-perfect look for yourself.
This is blue eye makeup done very, very right. Restrained and with just a hint of shimmer, this look complements Breslin’s own blue eyes and highlights her porcelain skin. Prep lids with a shadow primer (like Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion, $19, Urbandecay.com), then grab Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Explosion Shadow quad in Blue Blowout ($8.99, Target), which contains five different blue-toned shades. Swipe the bottom baby blue shade across lids, then dip a liner brush in water and use the darkest blue to line the upper lid, blending up into the crease and winging out slightly at the sides. Use the a medium blue shadow to tightly line the bottom lashes, and apply silver shadow to the brow bone as a highlighter, as well as in the corners of the eyes. Finish with Maybelline Define-A-Line eyeliner in Navy Blue ($4.99, Target) in the inner rims of the upper and lower lashes, and two coats of your favorite mascara.
2. Lips that Pack a Punch
Lips that are too preciously pink can make blue eye shadow seem dated. Keep the look modern and fun by choosing a color with more pop. Try Stila Lip Glaze in Strawberry ($22, Stilacosmetics.com) for a sheer jolt of color.
3. Get High—Hair, That Is
Getting Abigail’s modified bouffant look is easier than you think. Start with clean dry hair, and spray with a flexible hold hairspray (try Bumble and bumble Spray de Mode, $26, Bumbleandbumble.com) to give hair grip while you work. Finger-comb the top half of hair back and loosely gather at the back of your head, then move everything one to two inches up toward the crown and secure with a barrette or comb. Use a large-barrel curling iron to create gentle shape for the pieces left down, and mist again with hair spray for hold.
