Get the Look: Emilia Clarke’s Khaleesi Eyes

On Game of Thrones she doesn’t get to show much fashion flair (her outfits mostly consist of singed leather rags), but at the Los Angeles premiere of the show’s third season, actress Emilia Clarke wowed in a gorgeous blue gown and a makeup look that could make armies follow her into battle (with or without dragons). “Emilia’s dress had royal blue tones and was super-sleek and modern,” said makeup artist Dawn Broussard, who created the look for the night. “We wanted timeless glamour with a hint of something excitable.” Here’s how to get it.

Any great makeup look begins with sparkling, fresh-scrubbed skin. Broussard had Emilia wash with Biore Acne Clearing Scrub ($6.99, drugstores) to clean and polish.

Before the makeup, Broussard applied a primer—a must for big moments, since it helps makeup adhere longer. (We love Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer, $29 at Target.) Then Broussard applied a natural-finish foundation like Vincent Longo Water Canvas Crème-to-Powder Foundation ($57 at Beauty.com), using a foundation brush for extra evenness. Then she dusted translucent setting powder like Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder ($28, Sephora) across Emilia’s face, focusing on the T-zone, to eliminate shine.

Use a soft grey pencil liner like Buxom Waterproof Smoky Eye Stick in Ice Pick ($19, Sephora) to line both the upper and lower lash lines, then grab a palette full of smoky greys and metallic hues to create this smoldering eye look. Try Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Soft & Sexy Eye Shadow Collection ($46 at Sephora). Use a medium shadow brush to apply shadow in Lap Dance onto each lid, then grab a rounded crease brush to blend shadow in Birthday Suit into the creases and up toward the brow bones. Use a large shadow brush to sweep In The Buff just under the brows as a highlighter, and use a small shadow brush to blend French Tickler along the upper lash line. Finish by using a creamy pencil liner like Sephora Collection 12HR Wear Waterproof Jumbo Liner in White ($14, Sephora) to add shimmer n the corners of the eyes and underneath along the lower lash lines. Two coats of your favorite mascara are the finishing touch.

To offset the sparkle on the eyes, use a matte bronzer or blush (we like CoverGirl Classic Color Powder Blush, $5.99 at Walgreens) on the apples of the cheeks, the tip of the nose, and under the chin for a bit of contouring. Last, choose a soft lip color that’s just a shade or two darker than your natural lips, like Stila Color Balm Lipstick in Elle ($22, Ulta). For the most effortless look, apply it with your fingertips instead of straight from the tube.
