Get the Look: Margot Robbie’s Sophisticated Shimmer
Too much shimmer can make a face look greasy and mask-like, but just the right amount in just the right place can make anyone look luminous and radiant. The secret is choosing a single area of the face to highlight. Such is the case with Margot Robbie of ABC’s Pan Am who transformed a minimal-makeup look into something special with just a touch of shimmer on the cheekbones.
Here’s how to make it happen.
1. A Peaches-and-Cream Complexion
Choose a foundation with a matte or semi-matte finish, like Revlon’s PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup. Sweep it onto your face using fingers or a cosmetic sponge and set with your favorite loose or pressed powder.
2. Get Cheeky
Highlight the cheeks with an illuminating color like NARS Illuminator in Super Orgasm, which contains tiny flecks of gold in a peachy-pink cream. Although this sheer light-reflecting formula can be worn all over the face, only dab it on the apples of the cheeks, as you would regular blush. (Too much shimmer can easily become overkill, especially on pale-skinned gals.)
3. Welcome Matte
For eyes, choose shadows with a matte or slightly lustrous finish—avoid anything frosted or sparkly. For eyes like Margot’s, start with an eye shadow primer to keep color in place (Try Revlon PhotoReady Eye Primer). Next, use a sharp black pencil eye liner (like Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero) to tightly line upper and lower lids. Grab Urban Decay’s Naked2 Palette and apply the gunmetal-grey Pistol shadow on lids and along lower lash line. With a larger shadow brush, apply cloud-colored shadow in Verve just below brow bone and blend into the crease, followed by two coats of black mascara. Finish with a creamy lipstick with just a hint of shine, like Urban Decay Lipstick in Naked.
