In the middle of a busy week preparing for her world tour, the fabulous and funny YouTuber Lilly Singh went to couple of meetings without wearing makeup. Gasp! What she did next is something we're all guilty of. She texted the people she was meeting with: "Just a heads up, I look like a mess. Sorry. Don't judge me." Later that day, Singh realized that while that seemed like a benign message, it really wasn't. So she called herself on it in a video titled, "I'm NOT sorry."
A few hours after my meetings, when I calmed down a little and gathered my thoughts, it really hit me that I'd actually apologized to people for looking like a "mess" and not wearing makeup. And then I thought, "Girl! Did I really just apologize for not wearing makeup?" And then I yelled at myself because I thought, "Since when do I have to apologize for looking for myself? And since when is looking like myself a 'mess'?"
Yes! This is so important. As much as you love makeup—and Singh does love makeup—you aren't required to wear it, if you don't want to. And you don't have to feel bad about it!
So, if you're ever feeling like "a mess" or your tempted to apologize for your appearance, take a page out of the Lilly Singh handbook, and remember: "Looking like yourself is not something you need to be sorry for."
