It was the era of Lizzie McGuire, NSYNC and goucho pants. When we reminisce, we simultaneously smile and cringe (partly because we were adolescents at the time, and partly from the full denim outfits and frosted tips). Here's a look back at some of the most iconic beauty products that we absolutely needed during the early 2000s.
Bonne Bell Lips Smacker
Did you even grow up in the 2000s if you didn't own multiple tubes of edible lip balm? From conventional flavors like strawberry and bubblegum, to exclusively Lip Smacker flavors like Cherry Coke and Girl Scout Cookies, there's something for everyone. For a trip down memory lane, take a look at this Flavor Glossary and never forget the deliciousness that Bonne Bell graced us with in our early years.
We can't think of another beauty product from our youth that was a more prime sign of fabulousness than glitter. Not only was it the perfect way to glam up an event, but it could be found in every color imaginable at pretty much any girl's store, like Claire's or Limited Too. These scented sparkles helped us channel our inner popstar. School dances, nights at the movies and slumber parties weren't complete without shimmering like a fairy-goddess. Tweens everywhere paid homage to the '80s by spending hours in front of the mirror turning their tresses crinkle-cut fries. While this particular look isn't quite as common anymore (but if you can rock it, go you!), you can still achieve the volumonous look and feel with a waver for a more current spin on crimped hair. Butterfly Hair Clips
If you need to pin your hair out of your face, you might as well do it with a butterfly clip, right? In fact, these beauties weren't limited to just holding hair back. They were placed in our buns and ponytails just 'cause. (Related: The '90s Butterfly Clip Trend Is Back, And It's Totally Modernized)
Bath and Body Works body wash and fragrance
Whether you were a Cucumber Melon person, Warm Vanilla Sugar, or preferred Country Apple, we all had one thing in common: we bathed religiously in Bath and Body Works beauty products. After all, what could be better than smelling like fruit or dessert for the entirety of our tween years? Absolutely nothing.
Colorful Eyeshadow Palette
Our childhood wasn't complete without a giant case of eyeshadow featuring every color of the rainbow. From electric blue to hot pink, the palette guaranteed the perfect pop of color to any outfit. (See: Urban Decay's New Palette is Rainbow, Dreamy Colorful Goodness)
Lancome Juicy Tubes
Pre-Taylor Swift red lip era, it was all about plumping our lips to the glossiest possible. Slathering on our favorite Lancome Juicy flavor was a sure way to achieve Jessica Simpson's glossy pout in moments.
Conair Hair Braider
While Conair provided us with some of the most useful hair products throughout the years, their hair braider was certainly the most fun (although as far as we remember, it definitely wasn't as easy to use as advertised on TV). This product brought a little glam to every sleepover, and the ribbons were the perfect touch.
Teen Spirit deodorant
Okay, so deodorant isn't the most glamorous thing to talk about. But the pretty packaging and sweet scents of Teen Spirit made our awkward adolescent years a little more trendy and cool.
Metal Snap Barrettes
Similar to the butterfly clip, this accessory was the perfect way to spice up your hair style. We enjoyed them to keep our hair out of our eyes, or simply because they were pretty. Bonus if they had a flower or bow.
If you were lucky enough to be a teen or tween at the turn of the 21st century, we can almost guarantee you tried some of these (and absolutely pulled them off, of course). Here's to our past fashion faux pas and the many more we're sure to commit in the coming years.
