9 CC Creams Worth Trying

About two years ago, cosmetic companies threw makeup lovers for a loop by launching BB creams, closely followed by CC creams, and yes, even DD creams. Though BB creams were common in the Asian market, the U.S. customer only knew tinted moisturizer and foundation as coverage options. To understand what a CC cream does, you must first understand what a BB does. BB stands for beauty balm. These creams fulfill several purposes: moisturize, provide SPF, and provide coverage. CC creams do all of this with one additional benefit: color correction. Hence, the CC! The color-correction component either addresses dark spots and helps fade them over time, and some CC creams tone down and calm redness. We shopped high and low and found nine CC creams on the market that you'll want to try now!

Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream

1 / 9

Why you should try it: Smashbox has incorporated licorice root, known for lightening up dark spots over time, into this medium-weight, non-sticky CC. With a hefty SPF 30, you've got your daily sun protection too! This is one of my favorite ones because the texture is just right. Not too watery, not too thick.

Cover FX CC Cream Time Release Tinted Treatment

2 / 9

Why you should try it: Cover FX knocked it out of the park in terms of amped-up coverage for a CC with a natural retinoid alternative and brightening vitamin C. If you love the idea of a CC but need coverage, you'll dig this.

Sephora Skin Perfect CC Cream

3 / 9

When testing several high-end CC creams alongside one another, a group of Sephora girls and I all gravitated toward the more affordable Sephora brand over some of its pricier sisters. The coverage is medium, the finish is lightweight, and the formula—like the more expensive Smashbox CC—contains licorice root for lightening dark spots. For extra anti-aging power, sea kelp is also incorporated. It has a modest SPF of 20 so additional sunscreen might be a good idea.

Revlon Age Defying CC Cream

4 / 9

A drugstore favorite in the CC department, Revlon gives us a well-rounded CC with SPF 30, licorice root for lightening, anti-aging peptides and antioxidants plus SPF 30. For $14, you reap a wealth of benefits!

Physician's Formula Super CC

5 / 9

This drugstore CC capitalizes on color-correction properties to cancel out redness and a dull appearance. The yellow, green and pink color-correcting pigments are so tiny you won't see them, but they're hard at work! Plus, the formula is oil-free and hypoallergenic for sensitive skin types. This is a great drugstore dupe for Stila's CC Cream.

Tarte Colored Clay CC Primer

6 / 9

This CC has a totally different texture than a traditional CC cream! It feels like a foundation stick and utilizes pink and green to color correct and brighten. The coverage is great for a CC, and it's easy to apply. Just draw on, and blend out with fingers or a brush.

Stila CC Color Correcting Cream

7 / 9

This is one of the most fun-to-apply CC creams with its self adjusting technology via tiny pigment-bursting beads. Look closely and you'll see the beads burst on contact, adjusting themselves to just the right shade. There are still six color selections, with varying levels of pigment beads, to further ensure that the color is a perfect match. If you have a hard time finding the right shade in one-size-fits-all CCs, Stila has your back!

Ole Henriksen Perfect Truth CC Cream

8 / 9

Being a skincare company first, Ole Henriksen has packed this CC to the brim with anti-aging and brightening super powers: ferulic acid, tripeptides,Vitamin C, and light-reflecting pigments for an instantly diffused glow. The texture is lightweight, and the coverage is buildable from light to medium. It also has a lovely orange scent like all of the Perfect Truth line products.

Peter Thomas Roth CC Cream

9 / 9

PTR is a skincare icon, so it's no surprise his CC cream is well-rounded and well-stocked with ingredients that make a difference. This CC harnesses the brightening powers of the camu camu berry, which contains 30 times the vitamin C of an orange! The consistency is a bit thicker than some, but this allows for more complete coverage. $48 may initially seem pricier than the others, but at 1.7 oz, vs. the traditional 1 oz. size, you get your money's worth!
