Cocoa Swatches Is Changing The Way Women Of Color Shop For Makeup

Cocoa Swatches is an Instagram account and app that shows exactly what beauty products look like on dark skin, and it's helping people get it right the first time.

Anyone who has ever purchased cosmetics online knows that you can't properly decide on a beauty product without knowing how it will look on your skin first. Having a swatch that will accurately portray what the product actually looks like on is a must.

However, it's no secret that women and men with darker skin tones tend to be underrepresented in swatches across the beauty industry, and considering how different shades look from skin to skin, it's a serious problem!

This is where the IG beauty account Cocoa Swatches swoops in to save the day.

Cocoa Swatches is an Insta account created by founder Ofunne Amaka who creates original swatches on dark skin and also reposts images from brands who include diverse skin tones on their own accounts!

"As a beauty lover, it's extremely frustrating to hear about new products but have no idea if they'll even show up on a deeper complexion," Amaka told Allure.

"It's frustrating to get excited about a certain lipstick shade only to find that it's actually two to three shades lighter when applied to darker lips or hear about a new foundation formula only to hear they don't carry the formula in darker shades."

The popularity of Cocoa Swatches has spread so much that it has recently been turned into a downloadable app to bring anywhere you go. It's currently under construction, but feel free to download the Cocoa Swatches app and add your name to the waiting list to be updated when it's ready to go!

We adore Amaka and Cocoa Swatches' influence in the beauty world so far, and we can't wait to see where they go from here. Three cheers for nailing that perfect lip color on the first try!
