This Halo Smokey Eye Will Be Your New Favorite Makeup Tutorial

This makeup tutorial is the perfect update when your go-to smokey eye just isn't doing it for you anymore.

The halo smokey eye is a beautiful update on the more traditional smokey eye, and although it looks super complicated, it's actually pretty easy to master. If you're looking for a new way to spice up date night or the perfect makeup look for your favorite "going out" dress, this is it! Makeup artist Danielle Stewart shows you how.

Follow these steps:

Halo Smokey Eye Steps 1-2

1. Prep your face by applying primer and filling in your eyebrows. (See Three Different Techniques For Filling In Eyebrows Flawlessly) Apply eyeshadow primer. Use a fluffy crease blush to apply a transition color in the crease of your eyelid. Use a windshield wiper motion from the inner corner to the outer corner of the crease with your brush. Use a small flat brush to apply bright pink to the inner and outer corners of your eyelid, leaving the center blank. We used MAC Eyeshadow in Corduroy, $16 and colors from the Lorac Pro Palette 3, $44.

2. Apply a cranberry shade of eyeshadow to over the bright pink with a blending brush.

3. Apply a Merlot color over the cranberry and bright pink shadow with the same blending brush.

4. Using a crease brush, apply black eyeshadow over the transition color previously applied to the crease of your eyelid.

Halo Smokey Eye Steps 5-6

5. Use your finger to pat a copper eyeshadow color to the center of your eyelid, which has been left blank.

6. Lightly add glitter glue and loose gold glitter over the copper eyeshadow.

Halo Smokey Eye Steps 7-8

7. Apply black gel eyeliner with an angled brush and mascara. You may also add false lashes for a more dramatic look. (Read How To Apply Individual Cluster Lashes)

8. Finish the rest of your face makeup (foundation, concealer, blush, etc.) as usual, being careful to choose colors that compliment your eye makeup.

Halo Smokey Eye Final

And you're finished!
