Matchy-Matchy Makeup

Matchy-Matchy Makeup

All spring long, I’ve been obsessed with matchy-matchy nails and lips in bold, fun colors. Frankly, not having to worry about pairing up my makeup or putting on eye shadow has done some really good things for my morning time management, but the main draw is that matching nail polish and lipstick just creates such a delightful, happy, vivacious look.

I feel like I’m living in a Kate Spade ad! Or at least one of those whimsical “Alouette” Target commercials where everyone is wearing bright-colored Capri pants and jumping out of hot air balloons.
Le sigh. In my experience, the best way to get the best matchy-matchy look is to find coordinating products within the same brand.  When you stay within one manufacturer, the pigments and finishes are all likely to be the same, so you get the truest, most harmonious pairing. Here are a few that have been putting a pep in my step lately.

Butter LONDON Lacquer and Lippy in Snog—Shiny, bright, and long-lasting, butter LONDON’s richly pigmented polishes and coordinating lacquers have a glass-like gleam. The entire line is swoon-worthy, but the hot-pink Snog is becoming something of a uniform for me. (Lippy, $17, and lacquer, $14 at ULTA and Butterlondon.com)
Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Alarm and Lipstick in Flare—This vampy red pairing has a tinge of orange, making it perfect for spring. (Varnish, $14, and Lipstick, $22, at Sephora.com)

Tom Ford Beauty Nail Lacquer in African Violet and Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Wet Violet—Deep and rich, these luxe purples are amazing on dark skin tones. (Lacquer, $30, and Gloss, $45, at Neiman Marcus

Revlon ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor in Infinite Apricot and Nail Enamel in Charismatic—A long-lasting lip color (with optional super-shiny topcoat) and polish, both in a feminine, shimmering peach. (Lipcolor, $9.99 and Nail Enamel, $5.49, at Walgreens)
