Move Over, Contouring! Glitter Strobing Is Here To Up Your Makeup Game

You want bold and stunning? Look no further.

If you've been searching for the ultimate look to welcome 2017 with, put down that contour brush and look no further. Introducing: glitter strobing.

First of all, "what is strobing?" you might ask.

You know that "dewy, just got back from vacay, I eat the daily recommended amount of veggies"-glow? Think of that. Strobing uses illuminating makeup to enhance and sculpt the face; no dark powders or bronzers needed here. The trend came on huge in 2016, but it's being taken up a shimmery notch for the upcoming New Year.

With some help from beauty vlogger Shivon Johnstone from shivonmakeupbiz, here's how to glitter strobe your face so well for all of your holiday parties that you get more attention than the actual strobe light:

Step 1: Prep your skin with a hydrating moisturizer. The entire point of this trend is to help you glow, so dry skin is a definite no-no! Try Aveeno Positively Radiant moisturizer with SPF 30!

Step 2: After moisturizing, apply a base by mixing an illuminator with your normal foundation. This will help even out your skin and add an all-over radiance. We love the Stila 'One Step Illuminate" Skin Tone Illuminating Serum!

Step 3: Highlight the areas of your face that you normally would when contouring — just without the bronzer! Make sure you're only hitting the spots that truly catch light (i.e. cheekbones, temples, bridge of nose, brow bone, corners of your eyes and above your cupid's bow) in order to avoid looking greasy. When finished, go over with a highlighting brush to finish blending. Try out Clinique's Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight from Sephora!

Step 4: When you're ready to add some mega-wattage to your holiday shine, go ahead and add all of the glitter. This trend is so cool because you can make it subtle, with just a sweep of shimmer along your highlight, or stunningly bold even going so far as to add chunky glitter pieces! Play around with different glitter sizes, colors, and options and find what makes you feel most ready to take on the world. Go all out and play around with these Glitter Pigments from New Chic, or go for a more understated shimmer with this Ciate London Glow Pop Creme Highlighter from Sephora!
