How to Create the Perfect Pinstriped Nail Design
Monochrome was all over the catwalks for Autumn/Winter 2012, and it’s a trend that’s carried over to Spring/Summer 2013. I remember watching the Marc Jacobs SS13 New York Fashion Week show way back in September last year and falling head over heels for the beautiful monochrome creations scattered across the runway. I think his collection was one of the biggest catalysts for the monochrome craze sweeping the globe this season. Thank you Mr. Jacobs!
There was a big focus on tailored pieces with lots and lots of stripes. I like stripes… a lot! I’ve been wearing them on my nails constantly this year. Now I know how hard it is to get that elusive poker straight line on your nails, but once you discover striping tape, you’ll wonder how you lived without it all these years!
Step 1: Paint on a base of white nail polish. It needs to be completely dry before you move on to step 2, so I always use a fast drying top coat to speed things up a little.
Step 2: Using a pair of tweezers, place striping tape on each nail from the cuticle up to the tip. You can place the strips close together for a uniform pinstripe or further away for larger sections of black.
Step 3: Paint a coat of black nail polish over your whole nail and remove the tape as soon as you can, before the black polish dries leaving you with perfect pinstripe nails!
Step 4: Add some finishing touches. Apply your favorite top coat to seal everything in and clean up around your cuticles using a small nail art brush dipped in acetone for a professional finish.
