NYFW: Simple White Nails by butter LONDON on the Band Of Outsiders Runway
Band Of Outsiders head designer, Scott Sternberg, is the kind of guy you’d want to hang out with. His style can be defined as classically preppy mixed with the lax bohemian style of California cool kids. This natural swag was easily relayed onto the runway in his spring 2014 collection this week at New York Fashion Week.
Aside from the part sleek sporty, part bohemian rhapsody vibe that oozes from the West Coast, the collection was heavily influenced by an actress whom Sternberg calls a “Malibu noir goddess.” Nina van Pallandt’s role in the '70s film, The Long Goodbye, gave Sternberg the idea to create a collection of “the ghosts of Malibu.” From retro halter-tops and flowing white shirtdresses, to oversized rain ponchos, black-piped running shorts, and even crocheted zip-ups, the collection had a little of everything. In order to stay to true to his preppy tendencies, Sternberg was also sure to include some extra-long trench coats and color-blocked cable knit sweaters. All of the pieces transitioned in color; from crisp whites to vivid blues with a touch of ombre here and there.
In order to keep the “ghosts of Malibu” alive, Katie Jane Hughes, lead manicurist for butter LONDON, went with a simple, white nail. To get the look, Hughes first applied two coats of butter LONDON Nail Lacquer in Cotton Buds and finished with butter LONDON Matte Finish Shine Free Topcoat. Hughes offers one tip when using white polish: “The first layer is key, so I always suggest taking time to perfect the first coat. I use the second layer to deepen the color.”
