15 Of The Craziest Beauty Treatments Celebs Swear By

Celebs know the price of beauty and aren't afraid to spend tons of money to look flawless. While some of Hollywood's hottest stars keep up with regular skincare by way of facials and other "normal" beauty treatments, others take a wackier route—like vampire facials (yes, with blood) and cryo treatments. Check out some of the most bizarre things that celebs do to stay looking beautiful.

Vampire Facial

Kim Kardashian made headlines in 2014 when she underwent a vampire facial with BFF Jonathan Cheban by her side; check out this video of the process! According to Elle, Kim had several needles stuck into her face by way of a Dermapen. The report indicates that this type of facial “is meant to stimulate collagen and elastin fibers, which makes your skin smoother and all around clearer.”

Leech Therapy

Back in 2008, actress Demi Moore revealed that she’d had leech therapy. According to the Daily Mail, Moore credits the treatment with keeping her looking young. “I was in Austria doing a cleanse and part of the treatment was leech therapy. These aren’t just swamp leeches though—we are talking about highly trained medical leeches. These are not some low-level scavengers, we’re talking high-level blood suckers,” she said. “They have a little enzyme that when they are biting down in you it gets released in your blood and generally you bleed for quite a bit—and your health is optimized. It detoxifies your blood—I’m feeling very detoxified right now,” she added.

Introduced to the masses by The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills, cyrotherapy involves subjecting the body to below freezing temperatures for a few minutes at a time. Cast member Yolanda Foster brought her pals along to experience the treatment, which reportedly helps fight inflammation in the body. “For a couple of months after my explant surgery, I used it as a tool to bring down inflammation and speed up healing. It really worked for that particular chapter of my journey,” Yolanda wrote in her Bravo blog during Season 6.

Gold Bee Venom Facial

Celeb fans Ellie Goulding and Cameron Diaz are among the famous folks who have tried the Gold Bee Venom facial, which is said to have anti-inflammatory, anti-acne and anti-aging properties. According to Glamour Magazine, the beauty treatment costs well over $1,400 a pop. “The routine involves microdemabrasion, bee venom and gold serum slathered on the face, and then a quick blast of pure oxygen. After that, the face is covered in 24-carat gold leaf and a mask made from gold hyaluronic acid and collagen.”

Electrical Facial

Several celebrities seem to love the electrical facial, which looks a heck of a lot scarier than it actually is! According to the Huffington Post, the procedure “uses an electrical current to deliver a water-soluble solution into the skin,” and lasts a little over an hour. Celebs who are into this beauty treatment include Kyle Richards, Lady Gaga, and Emmy Rossum.

Oil Pulling

Lauren Conrad, Shailene Woodley and Gwyneth Paltrow are among the famous fans of oil pulling as a natural beauty treatment. The treatment is pretty simple. Basically, you take a teaspoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for a full 20 minutes before spitting it out. It is said that doing this draws toxins from the body, and helps whiten teeth and promotes gum health.

Sheep Placenta Facials

Yep, you read that right. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Harry Styles are fans of this strange facial. According to the New York Daily News, it involves exactly what you think it does: putting sheep placenta on one’s face. “Stem cells are basically the ground zero for cell growth. Collagen production slows down as we age, and stem cells are a great way to produce collagen and keep the skin looking youthful,” explained esthetician to the stars, Joanna Vargas.

Bird Poop Facial

It probably doesn’t get much weirder (or more gross) than this! Victoria Beckham and her hubby David have reportedly tried this strange beauty treatment. According to the Daily Mail, the excrement is “dried under UV lights, mixed with rice bran and water in the spa, and applied as a face mask.” Um, no.

Fish Pedicure

What better way to have the dead skin removed from your feet than by a bunch of hungry little fish? In countries all over the world, people put their tootsies in pools with garra rufa fish and watch while their dead skin is eaten away. Celebrity fans of the treatment include Kendall Jenner, Scott Disick, and Jessica Simpson.

Snail Facial

Mucus from a snail can cure acne, scars, ease burns, and make wrinkles disappear. According to Cosmopolitan, this treatment costs about $250 and is available only in Japan. “Apparently, snail goo has a ton of antioxidants and skin-boosting properties—so much so that the salon started selling a serum with the stuff before devising this new treatment.” Actress Katie Holmes reportedly buys “snail gel,” which is available in the UK and has similar results, according to the Daily Mail.

Rodial Freeze Treatment

Gwyneth Paltrow and Kylie Minogue reportedly enjoy this Botox alternative. “Rodial Glamoxy products contain Syn-ake—a neuropeptide which gives a mild freezing effect on wrinkles. This replicates the effect that real snake venom would have,” reports the Daily Mail.

Mouth Massage

Kate Moss and Keira Knightley are reportedly among the celebs who enjoy a mouth massage. According to the Daily Mail, “this procedure incorporates a massage within the mouth, working on muscles inside the upper lip, cheek and jaw area. It encourages circulation, lifts the face, works on muscle tone and temporarily reduces fine lines and wrinkles.”

Black Diamond Facial

Model Cara Delevingne is reportedly a fan of the super-pricey black diamond facial. Developed in Russia, this beauty treatment involves the super-expensive Black Diamond 111SKIN products and a galvanic current, which helps get the product into the skin.

Urine Facial

After reading about the previous facials, this one shouldn’t even surprise you! Singer Vanessa Williams is said to be a fan of this strange beauty treatment, which involves putting urine on the face. It is said to help clear up psoriasis, eczema, and acne. No word on where they get the urine…

This odd beauty treatment has a ton of celebrity fans including Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, and David Arquette. The process involves heated glass cups suctioned to the skin that leave red circles behind after treatment. Cupping is said to stimulate circulation and ease stress.
