Treat the environment (and your skin) this Earth Day with all-natural skincare brands that not only promote healthy skin, but a healthy planet.
Let’s be honest, every day of the year should be treated like Earth Day. Taking green initiatives in our lives, big and small, and being more eco-conscious in our consumer choices truly impacts the environment and makes the world a better place to live. Recycling, biking, planting trees and using reusable water bottles are all great ways to help out mother nature, but what about your skincare routine?
It’s time to clear out your medicine cabinet of lotions and face washes riddled with harsh chemicals to make way for natural ingredients and eco-friendly products. Some of these inorganic ingredients can harm the environment when washed down the drain, such as pesticides or triclosan.
This Earth Day (and every day) treat yourself and Mother Nature to natural skincare brands that keep you and the Earth happy and healthy.
1. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Honest Hazel
Say bye-bye to tired eyes, because Honest Hazel is a natural beauty brand specializing in refreshing under-eye treatments. A big thing I love about them (and what you’ll find throughout this story with other brands) is that you can read the ingredients label and understand every, single, word. And if a brand brings out a word that you may not recognize, they will go into further detail explaining that ingredient so that you fully understand what you are putting on your skin. Key ingredients in Honest Hazel that will work wonders on your skin are the Cactus Collagen and Aloe Vera that will leave your under-eye skin depuffed and hydrated.
Honest Hazel Eye Gels, Anthropologie, $12
2. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Olio E Osso
If you’re constantly on the go and planning weekend trips like me, versatility in a skincare product is a necessity. I can pack lighter and save space if I have with me a product that can do the job of three in one. And products from the natural skincare brand Olio E Osso do just that. All of their balms are based off the same nourishing properties of olive and shea oils and are meant to be used everywhere on your body, from head to toe. The oils are all-natural, fragrance-free and sustainably harvested. Not only will you feel good about the ingredients, but all of Olio E Osso’s products are sourced and produced by hand locally in Portland, Oregon, so you can rest assured that they’re being responsibly made.
Olio E Osso Cleansing Oil, Neiman Marcus, $80
Olio E Osso Balm Jar, Neiman Marcus, $55
3. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Marin Bee
For those who’ve come accustomed to some DIY beauty tricks, then you know that honey is like the all-natural fountain of youth. It’s naturally antibacterial, prevents acne, is full of antioxidants for slowing aging, and is a great moisturizer and complexion booster. It was upon these benefits that a backyard beekeeper Debra Tomaszewski founded Marin Bee, a skincare line made with California Wildflower Honey. These products smell amazing (not a drop of synthetic fragrance), nourish your skin (I personally always have some Honey Butter on hand), and great for the environment. Everything is sustainably sourced, the packaging is recyclable and printed with plant dyes, and a portion of all sales goes toward the nonprofit Planet Bee Foundation, which hosts philanthropic workshops to promote low-cost backyard beekeeping.
Marin Bee Lip Repair, Anthropologie, $26
Marin Bee Honey Butter, Anthropologie, $40
Marin Bee Detox Masque, Anthropologie, $48
Marin Bee Honey Shave, Marin Bee, $28
4. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Juice Beauty
Fun fact! The largest organ on your bod is *drumroll please* your skin! It also absorbs more than 60 percent of what’s placed on it—now all those chemical ingredients are looking a little more icky, right? That’s what Juice Beauty founder Karen Behnke thought too. She set out and created organic and natural formula beauty products that felt luxurious and could outperform conventional products. Juice Beauty has a huge line of natural skincare and makeup to try, with our favorites being the Green Apple Peel Full Strength Exfoliating Mask and Age Defy Moisturizer. Also in celebration of Earth Month, through April 30 if you purchase its antioxidant serum, the company will donate $1 to Breast Cancer Prevention Partners and $1 to Environmental Working Group (EWG) with every sale!
Juice Beauty GREEN APPLE Peel Full Strength Exfoliating Mask, Bloomingdale’s, $48
Juice Beauty GREEN APPLE Age Defy Moisturizer, Bloomingdale’s, $50
Juice Beauty Antioxidant Serum, Juice Beauty, $48
5. All-Natural Skincare Brand: OY-L
Growing up we usually check the prices on our products, from our clothes, our groceries, to our skincare products before looking into their creation. OY-L was based upon the idea of paying attention to what ingredients are going into our skincare products, avoid using what’s toxic, and keeping things natural. It uses zero chemicals and zero animal testing, packages sustainably, and encourages customers to repurpose or recycle the glass containers products come in. I particularly am loving the Manuka honey face products! It’s sourced from New Zealand and uses 20+ UMF, meaning the hydrogen peroxide, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties are medical grade. It leaves my skin glowing and my body feeling clean.
OY-L Tiare Lime Body Butter, Saks Fifth Avenue, $30
OY-L Exfoliating Manuka Mask, Saks Fifth Avenue, $60
OY-L Face Wash, Saks Fifth Avenue, $18
OY-L Manuka Latte Lip Balm, Saks Fifth Avenue, $20
6. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Erin’s Faces
Summer is well on its way! Despite what you “negative Nancys” say, this gloomy spring weather will be gone before we know it. That means lots of sun, bugs, and products to battle the elements. As I have stated before, your skin soaks up what you lather on it, so keep your body toxin-free with Erin’s Faces vegan and paraben- and chemical-free products. Keep your skin in protected with these summer essentials: Peptide SPF (great for everyday, non-greasy formula), mosquito repellent (it smells amazing), and her monoi tiare oil which will save your skin and hair after hours of being outdoors.
Erin’s Faces Deet-Free Mosquito Repellent, Erin’s Faces, $10
Erin’s Faces Peptide SPF – UVA/UVB, Erin’s Faces, $50
Erin’s Faces Monoi Tiare Oil, Erin’s Faces, $25
7. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Elyse Marie Botanicals
Looking for serious moisturizer? Put down your lotion and turn to oils. They penetrate further into the skin, are non-greasy, and noncomedogenic, so they won’t clog your pores. The key is to use high-quality natural oils to ensure your skin is soaking up the best possible nutrients and keeping pores clean. I recommend giving Elyse Marie a go. They’re relatively inexpensive compared to most natural oils on the market, they go in depth about their ingredients so you know exactly what’s going on your skin, and all of their products are packaged in glass (plastic has toxic and chemical components) and recycled paper sourced in the U.S.
Elyse Marie N°55 Replenish Body, Elyse Marie Botanicals, $39
Elyse Marie N°37 Illuminate Face, Elyse Marie Botanicals, $46
8. All-Natural Skincare Brand: The Seaweed Bath Co.
Your exposure to seaweed up until now might be limited. You might have eaten some at a sushi restaurant or got stuck in some when you waded into post-storm seas. But what about incorporating it into your bath routine? The Seaweed Bath Co. uses a bladderwrack seaweed that they sustainably harvest off the coast of Maine across their full product line, from shampoo and conditioner to detoxing body washes. The benefits are incredible. Bladderwrack seaweed has more than 65 vitamins and minerals, it helps flush your system of environmental toxins and heavy metals, aids the body in shedding excess fluids (uh buh-bye cellulite), and has a ton of amino acids to reduce signs of aging. With the majority of this line running for less than $20, it’s a natural skincare steal.
The Seaweed Bath Co. Balancing Eucalyptus and Peppermint Argan Shampoo, Amazon, $10
The Seaweed Bath Co. Natural Balancing Eucalyptus & Peppermint Argan Conditioner, Target, $12.99
The Seaweed Bath Co. Purifying Micro Scrub, Target, $16.99
The Seaweed Bath Co. Purifying Detox Facial and Body Bar, Amazon, $7.59
9. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Kaia Naturals
I think we can all agree: After a long day’s work the biggest chore (but most euphoric feeling) is taking off our makeup. Using a traditional cleansing cloth works great, but if you’re looking for an eco-friendly option, try Juicy Bamboo by Kaia Naturals. It’s a true makeup remover and skin cleanser, and best off all, when you’re done bury it in a plant and the cloth will dissolve. (You read that right.) It’s made of super soft bamboo fibers that will disappear in 60 to 70 days and will not harm your plant! Also, you may have read in recent years about the charcoal deodorant trend. Traditional deodorant is riddled with chemicals, while charcoal has been found to be a natural, odor-free alternative. If you’re ready to detox your underarms, try Kaia Naturals Takesumi Detox and Deodorant Booster Bar to cleanse your pits and kick your workout’s butt, chemical-free.
Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Cleansing Cloths, Kaia Naturals, $16
Kaia Naturals The Takesumi Detox | Juicy Bamboo, Kaia Naturals, $22
Kaia Naturals The Deodorant Booster Bar, Kaia Naturals, $22
10. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Skin Gym
Who doesn’t love a good massage? While getting your significant other to give you a good back rub is one thing… massaging your face is a different story. Smooth away facial tension and wrinkles with a revitalizing all-natural facial roller or crystal wand. Using all-natural crystal rollers with precious stones that are cut and carved from the Earth has always been seen as incredibly valuable. In many ancient cultures, crystals were used for healing and mental balance and are said to have energizing benefits (though there are no studies proving or disproving this). For example, rose quartz is said to be known for circulation, self love, and promoting overall compassion and sense of community in your life. Regardless of if you believe in the energy methods of crystals or think it’s a placebo effect, there are benefits to a stone massage and it’s ability to relax the body and improve circulation. Take a crystal of your choice and simply roll it gently across your face and pair with a face oil or moisturizer to help with product absorption and even distribution. Skin Gym has a wide variety of crystal wands and facial rollers, with each crystal believed to contain powerful energies. Choose one that you connect with (or find pretty) and start rolling away.
Skin Gym Crystal Facial Roller, Free People, $32
Skin Gym Healing Crystal Wand, Free People, $23 (each)
11. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Pink House
After recovering from breast cancer, Karen Sjoberg and her sister Tracy Olesen founded Pink House. They use 100 percent natural ingredients—eliminating even controversial ingredients that haven’t been deemed harmful entirely yet. Sadly Karen passed away from cancer, but her legacy lives on in Pink House. The packaging is gorgeous, and the brand has a very hard-to-find all-natural dry shampoo, a deodorant that is fairly similar to what you find in the store (but chemical-free of course), and a cranberry scrub and face lotion that smell and feel fantastic. Also, if you have been diagnosed or know anyone that has been diagnosed with breast cancer, be sure to reach out to Pink House, as they love to connect and gift care packages to help with the healing process.
Pink House Cranberry Scrub, Pink House, $12
Pink House Pit Potion – Lemongrass Lime, Pink House, $14
Pink House Dry Shampoo – Hot Chocolate, Pink House, $18
Pink House Raspberry Face Lotion, Pink House, $32
12. All-Natural Skincare Brand: Farmhouse Fresh
I am obsessed with this beauty brand. Every night before bed I massage the Three Milk Ageless Night Cream across my face, sleep on it, and wake up with baby soft, firm skin. My mother “borrows” (more like steals) this from me every time I visit and can’t get enough. Farmhouse Fresh also recently came out with a uber luxurious pedicure kit and let me tell ya, my feet feel as soft as my face. Their products are seriously miraculous, and a little goes a long way, so you’ll reap the rewards for a long time.
Farmhouse Fresh Pedi Delight, Farmhouse Fresh Goods, $19
Farmhouse Fresh Three Milk Ageless Night Cream, Farmhouse Fresh Goods, $45

Give yourself and your man some natural skincare TLC with some kitchen-born witchery from the Clary Collection. It was developed by two strong mothers who sought to, and ended up creating, truly clean moisturizers and balms. Their ingredients are gentle, simple, and completely natural. The Clary Balm is a skincare routine game-changer. It can quickly soothe and protect dry skin. Best of all you can use it as often as you want, anywhere. Lips, hands, face—it’s got you covered. Another great product, and I personally plan on treating my boyfriend to, is the Clary Beard Oil. It smells amazing and will take his facial hair from rough and scratch to smooth and conditioned.

Clary Beard Oil, Clary Collection, $26
15. All-Natural Skincare Brand: BUTTERelixir
You all are going to get tired of hearing me say this but seriously, introduce oils into your natural skincare routine! Americans tend to be all about our lotions, but over in Europe, oils reign supreme. BUTTERelixir’s ultralight and 100 percent natural oils will leave your whole body glowing. Apply it in the morning and at night to hydrate and nourish, and go about your day with a fresh-from-the-spa glow.
