The 20-Something Guide to Anti-Aging Products

Dr. Hadley King, a board certified dermatologist at SKINNEY Medspa, answered our most pressing anti-aging questions for 20-somethings, so read on and find out what you should be doing now.

Anti-aging? At 20? Trust us, it's not as crazy as it sounds. The truth is, the earlier you start preventing the signs of aging, the better your skin will look when you are older. To find out what we should be doing now we talked to Dr. Hadley King, a board certified dermatologist at SKINNEY Medspa in NYC. She gave us some of her best tips and tricks so wrinkles won't stand a chance.

Q: What should women in their 20s do now to prevent aging?
HK: Sun protection is the single most important thing you can do to prevent aging. And don't smoke.

Q: Is there a certain type of product that would be the most helpful?
HK: Sunblock is the most helpful product because it helps protect your skin from UV rays. The next most helpful would be a night cream containing a retinoid to increase collagen and the turnover of the skin cells.

Q: What are some of your favorite skincare products?
HK: I love Revision Skincare's Intellishade Matte Anti-Aging Tinted Moisturizer with Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 45 for daily sun protection. And I like Revision Skincare's Retinol Complete–in addition to a daily moisturizer with SPF, use a product like Susan Posnick COLORFLO, a mineral foundation that provides flawless coverage and SPF 26 sun protection.

Q: How is aging prevention different in your 20s than it is in your 30s?
HK: In your 20s it is important to focus on prevention and to form healthy skincare habits that will last a lifetime. Protect your skin from the sun and use a retinoid-containing night cream. Continue these practices in your 30s, and you also may want to start considering treating early signs of aging with options such as neuromodulators, chemical peels, laser and light facials and dermal fillers. A great option for hand-held at-home device is Truth Vitality Lux Renew which combines red and blue LED light and ultrasound for firmer, clearer looking skin.

Seriously, ladies. If you're still smoking or soaking up too much sun, it's probably time to call it quits. The best defense is a good offense, so don't wait until your 30s or 40s to start worrying about damage to your skin that you could have prevented.
