How To Use Vaseline To Save Your Winter Beauty Routine
We love winter, but we don't really enjoy the way it leaves our skin.
While we love when the weather dips down, (and don't even get us started on our love for the first snow) we don't exactly appreciate the way winter leaves our skin.
But, thanks to Vaseline, that flaky, irritated feeling can easily be avoided on the cheap. Here are a few tricks to make sure your skin stays in tip-top shape all season long.
1. Prevent Chapped Lips
Keep your lips kissably soft by using Vaseline as a moisturizer. Replace your everyday lip balm with Vaseline, or apply a thin layer before going to bed at night to wake up with perfectly smooth lips.
2. Or Cure Chapped Lips
Need to make a smooth base for your already patchy, dry lips? Try mixing a dab of Vaseline with a pinch of sugar (brown sugar is recommended) for a DIY lip scrub. Gently scrub the mixture along your lips using your finger or an old toothbrush and wipe away with a paper towel. Your lips will be prepped and ready for your favorite lipstick.
3. Safety Layer Between Your Nose And That Tissue
Colds. Are. The. Worst. And, of course, the winter weather brings all those nasty symptoms along with it. Having to constantly blow your nose will leave everything irritated, red, and dry. Plus, it's nearly impossible to cover up. To protect your nose, layer a bit of Vaseline to prevent irritation. And if your nose does end up looking a little like Rudolph's? Add a little Vaseline to heal it in no time.
4. Treat Delicate Dry Skin Patches
Have those tricky little dry patches around the corners of your eye? Or even that spot on your cheek that is irritated no matter what you do? Try dabbing on a bit of Vaseline to act as a moisturizer. Added bonuses: Vaseline doesn't clog your pores, and if you apply it over your foundation, it can even act as a DIY highlighter! Add a touch of lipstick into it and you've got a cream blush.
5. Condition Your Scalp
Sometimes your hair succumbs to dry patches, especially around the hairline, and Vaseline is an easy go-to product. Simply dab a little Vaseline to the affected areas and let it do its magic. This is especially perfect to do right before you go to bed. Simply wash your hair in the morning to make sure any excess product is out. It's that easy.
6. Disguise Those Split Ends
It's no secret that your hair tends to react negatively to the dipping temperatures. All those things we do to keep warm (yes, that plug-in heater, I'm talking to you) zaps the moisture, leaving your hair prone to breaking and dryness.
Disguise those split ends between trims by dabbing your fingertips in Vaseline and rubbing them on your ends to tame 'em down.
7. Nix Pesky Razor Burn Irritation
Ever find that your legs are even worse to shave in the winter? Same. Add a hint of shine and reduce irritation from razor burn by using a thin layer of Vaseline up and down those trouble spots.
8. Moisturize Your Cuticles
Another two-in-one. Help keep your nail beds looking on point by applying a bit of Vaseline on your cuticles and around your nail bed to help prevent those nasty hangnails. If you apply the Vaseline right before you paint your nails, it will also help catch that pesky polish that doesn't land on your nail and prevent it from staining your skin. An A+ hack indeed.
Which hack will you be trying out?
