22 Celebrities Who Swear by Their Gluten-Free Diets

Whether they’re going gluten-free because they have celiac disease or are simply sensitive, it seems that everyone is avoiding gluten these days, even celebrities! A protein found in certain grains, including wheat, barley and rye, gluten can be tough to cut out entirely, but doing so can have serious health benefits. Some say eliminating the protein can help with digestion, improve energy, alleviate sinus problems, and reduce inflammation.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

The former co-host of “The View” is well-known for living with celiac disease, even writing a book on the subject, The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide. Of course, she and gluten will never be BFFs, but it doesn’t stop her from co-hosting “Fox & Friends.”

Chelsea Clinton

The first (and only) daughter of Bill and Hillary has been in the spotlight since she was a child, and now she’s shining a spotlight on her gluten allergy. Avoiding gluten on her wedding in 2010 wasn’t too hard, though. You might say it was a gluten-free piece of cake!

Keith Olbermann

The ESPN host—turned MSNBC host, turned ESPN host again—is said to have celiac disease. One of Keith’s popular ESPN catchphrases—”he puts the biscuit in the basket”—is about hockey, but let’s pretend they are gluten-free biscuits.

Geri Halliwell

#FunFact: Ginger is gluten-free.

#FunFact: Spices are gluten-free.

#FunFact: And the person formerly known as Ginger Spice is also gluten-free.

Zooey Deschanel

The “New Girl” actress isn’t new to a gluten-free diet. She is gluten-intolerant and also allergic to a number of other foods.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry’s relationship with gluten has been “Hot N Cold.” After developing an allergy in 2014, the pop princess has been trying a gluten-free diet, despite a deep love for pizza.

Kourtney Kardashian

Keeping up with Kourtney is even tougher now that she’s on a gluten-free diet. In an attempt to get healthier, the reality TV star has been eating only organic, gluten-free foods.

Billy Bob Thornton

Surprisingly, actor and filmmaker Billy Bob Thornton has lots of allergies to keep track of. He is reportedly wheat- and lactose-intolerant, in addition to being allergic to shellfish.

Drew Brees

New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees has also been diagnosed with celiac disease, but it doesn’t keep him from throwing touchdowns every Sunday. The teams that skipped over him in the NFL draft are now eating gluten-free humble pie.

Emmy Rossum

Emmy Rossum is “Shameless” about her gluten-free diet; she has celiac disease. After receiving a birthday cupcake live on MTV News, the glamorous actor had to pass on the cake and eat just the icing instead.

Ryan Phillippe

I know what Ryan didn’t do last summer: eat gluten. Reese Witherspoon’s dashing ex-husband has a gluten allergy and has to keep a strict diet to maintain his chiseled physique.

Jennifer Esposito

Jennifer Esposito isn’t just gluten-sensitive; she has celiac disease. The beautiful actress even wrote her own book—Jennifer’s Way: My Journey with Celiac Disease—to share her story, struggle, and tips for managing celiac disease.

Gwyneth Paltrow

After suffering from past medical issues, Gwyneth and her family have gone gluten-, dairy-, and sugar-free. She even helped compile a healthy-eating cookbook It’s All Good with some of her favorite gluten-free recipes. Goop there it is!

Rachel Weisz

Unlike her mummy costar in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, English-born actress Rachel Weisz doesn’t keep her wheat intolerance under wraps. She’s said that she avoids wheat products to prevent digestive issues and stomach inflammation.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba has been plagued by allergies her whole life, and has taken drastic measures to cut chemicals, preservatives, pesticides, nitrates, and sulfates out of her life. She hasn’t entirely erased gluten from her diet but eats gluten-free most of the time.

Miley Cyrus

Before Miley learned she had a “gluten and lactose allergy,” gluten was a wrecking ball on her health. Cutting out both gluten and lactose, Miley lost enough weight to trigger anorexia rumors, which she promptly discredited.

Kim Kardashian

In 2012, Yeezy’s wife Kim Kardashian tweeted, “Gluten-free is the way to be”; and now she will be forever known as Gluten Freezy.

Russell Crowe

Crowe tweeted that going gluten-free—and reportedly cutting back on booze—helped him shed 16 pounds. I guess what they say is true: No gluten and no liquor, never been fitter.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga adopted a strict gluten-free diet to get into the best shape of her life. Good thing she wore a meat dress instead of a wheat dress.

Bill Clinton

After years of health issues, the former president of the free world Bill Clinton went on a vegan diet and has said he enjoys gluten-free snacks. Now he’s the president of the gluten-free world!

Victoria Beckham

Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is said to adhere to a gluten-free diet, which goes to show that being gluten-free is totally posh.

Jessica Simpson

Jessica is said to be wheat-intolerant so it’s a good thing that tuna—”the chicken of the sea”—is gluten-free.
