28 Female Celebrities Who Are HUGE Sports Fans
by Rachel Weeks
Lots of celebrities are known for being big sports fans—Jack Nicholson might as well be on the L.A. Lakers—but not many of them are women. Here are 28 of the biggest female sports fans that just happen to be famous as well.
Whenever she’s back home in Louisville, Jennifer Lawrence loves to rep the home team. She’s been spotted eating a slice of pizza and cheering on the University of Louisville Cardinals at a number of Cards basketball games. But that doesn’t mean J-Law isn’t an athlete herself! She trains intensely for active roles like Katniss Everdeen.
Iconic quirky girl Zooey Deschanel is, in fact, a ride-or-die San Francisco Giants fan. In 2010, she sang “God Bless America” during game three of the National League Championship Series against the Phillies and was a fixture at Giants games during their 2012 World Series run. Deschanel is such a huge baseball buff, she even plays fantasy baseball.
Texas native Eva Longoria isn’t with Spurs point guard Tony Parker anymore, but she’s still a huge fan of the San Antonio basketball team. Rumor has it, Longoria is a pretty good athlete as well. She scored well at the George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic in 2012.
Born in Manhattan, Lady Gaga is a wild and enthusiastic fan of the New York Yankees. She is so enthusiastic, however, that she was rumored to be banned from Yankee clubhouse after inviting herself in to see the players wearing only underwear, fishnets, and an open Yankees jersey.
While Courteney Cox doesn’t get the same hype as Lakers fanatics Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson, she’s still a very dedicated fan of the L.A. basketball team. She and ex-husband David Arquette frequented games together, even getting caught smooching on camera.
Khloe Kardashian’s on-again, off-again relationship with ex-Laker Lamar Odom doesn’t seem to affect her passion for basketball or the Los Angeles Lakers. The reality star can often be found cheering on the sidelines.
Sarah Jessica Parker
While Sarah Jessica Parker’s relationship with long-time husband Matthew Broderick seems to be going strong, there has to be some kind of contention when it comes to baseball. Parker is a dedicated New York Yankees fan, while Broderick sides with the New York Mets.
Unbeknownst to all of us, The Office staple Jenna Fischer is a huge sports fan. Fischer roots for the Dallas Cowboys during football season and sides with the St. Louis Cardinals for baseball. She’s even a regular at MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Games.
Of course, Jenny from the block is a big fan of the New York Yankees. But fewer people know that she is also a co-owner of the Miami Dolphins. Lopez and ex-husband Marc Anthony purchased a small percentage of the team back in 2009. More recently, she kicked off the FIFA World Cup with an anthem that blew crowds away.
Believe it or not, Jessica Alba is often listed among some of the most die-hard sports fans. She often sits courtside at Golden State Warriors basketball games—despite their less than stellar record—and is cited as a fan of NFL’s Oakland Raiders as well.
It’s pretty hard not to be a football enthusiast when you’re married to die-hard fan Tim McGraw, but Faith Hill has been a Tennessee Titans fan her whole life. “Around our house in football season there’s a big routine,” Hill told USA Today. “Dinner has to be planned out around the game, homework has to be finished. It’s an all-gather-around the television time.”
Jennifer Garner has been a San Francisco 49ers fan since she was a child, but is also said to have adopted a love for the Red Sox after marrying Boston native Ben Affleck. She didn’t, however, adopt his passion for the Patriots.
Alyssa Milano is an avid baseball fan, always representing her L.A. Dodgers. She’s a well known season ticket holder, runs her own sports blog, and even designs fashionable and warm sports clothes made for women.
Ashley Judd is famous for a lot of things, but her enthusiastic love for University of Kentucky basketball stands above all the rest. Judd, who regularly sits in the student section at college basketball games, is always going crazy for her Wildcats.
Jessie James Decker
Country pop star Jessie James Decker loved the Denver Broncos so much that she married one: wide receiver Eric Decker, who has since become a New York Jet. Since then she’s performed at a number of Broncos games, singing the national anthem and repping her favorite football players.
Country darling Carrie Underwood loves to support her hockey hubby Mike Fisher and the rest of the Nashville Predators, but she’s a football fan at heart. “I grew up a 100 percent [Dallas] Cowboys fan,” Underwood told Country Weekly. “My room was blue and gray and I had Cowboys pillows and posters of Troy Aikman on my wall—he’s an Oklahoma boy! So they were my favorite.” Here, she throws out the first pitch for the New York Yankees.
While Rihanna is considered by many to be a flagrant bandwagon fan, there is no denying that Rihanna is a huge sports enthusiast. She’s been seen front row at countless basketball games: supporting the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and more.
Kate Upton used to be a big supporter of the New York Yankees, but she switched teams after she started dating Detroit Tigers player Justin Verlander, and the Yankees aren’t very happy about it. “My boyfriend plays for the Tigers,” Upton said. “I had to pick a side. And I felt it too, when I walked in. The Yankees told me, ‘You’re not allowed to wear a Tigers hat. You’re not allowed to wear any Tigers gear.’ It’s like a bad breakup.”
TV host Maria Menounos is a die-hard Boston Celtics supporter, and isn’t afraid to show it. She isn’t shy about shouting from the stands and even got kicked out of a basketball game for fighting with famous Lakers fan Jack Nicholson. She’s apparently a fighter on the volleyball court as well, making quite a splash at the AVP Huntington Beach Open.
Keira Knightley played a British footballer in Bend It Like Beckham, but she’s also a fan of the sport in real life. Knightley is a lifelong supporter of West Ham United F.C., so she knows they are “not the sort of team who win very often.” But she still used to get up at 6 a.m. to watch their games when she lived in Santa Monica.
It’s no surprise that pop-princess Demi Lovato supports the Dallas Cowboys. It appears to run in the family. Lovato’s mother was such a big fan that she became a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader! Of course, it’s very difficult to live in New York without supporting the Jets, as well.
A Texan born and bred, Selena Gomez is frequently in attendance at San Antonio Spurs basketball games. She can often be found courtside, rocking a black Spurs jersey. She’s also presumably a Kansas City Royals fan, seeing as she made an appearance at the Royals’ Big Slick Celebrity Softball Game back in 2015. But maybe she just likes to play.
Olivia Wilde and husband Jason Sudeikis can always be spotted at sporting events, especially when the University of Kansas Jayhawks are involved. Sudeikis is a Kansas native and appears to have brought Wilde into the fold, seeing as the couple can also be spotted cheering on the Kansas City Royals—and smooching after the game.
An Oklahoma native and a University of Oklahoma alumna, Olivia Munn has been a Thunder fan for a long time. She lives a long way from home now, but she and boyfriend, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, drop in on games when they are in town. Munn may not be at a lot of games, but her Twitter feed shows that she’s always keeping up with them.
Megan Fox is frequently spotted courtside at star-studded Los Angeles Lakers games, often sitting with her husband, 90210-alum Brian Austin Green. When she’s not courtside, Fox gets her Lakers action at home, and was quick to blast DirecTV when Lakers fans were having trouble getting the games. “You’re ruining my holiday,” she posted.
Mila Kunis and hubby Ashton Kutcher are longtime supporters of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Kunis has also adopted her husband’s beloved Chicago Bears as well. It’s safe to bet that the couple’s one-year-old daughter Wyatt has lots of sports gear in her closet.
Massachusetts native and Bring It On actress Eliza Dushku is a longtime fan of the Boston Celtics and has been spotted courtside on many occasions; she’s even dating ex-Celtic Rick Fox (and apparently they do triathlons together!). A true Boston girl, Dushku can also be spotted cheering on the Boston Red Sox whenever she gets the chance.
One of many famous L.A. residents who support the team, Charlize Theron is yet another avid Los Angeles Lakers fan. But she also admitted to being a big UFC enthusiast as well. Theron told Conan O’Brien that she doesn’t know what her love of “sweaty, hot men bleeding all over each other and bashing each other in the face” says about her.
