The 6 Most Interesting Celebrity Starter Marriages

Sometimes these brief first marriages capture our imagination because the two celebrities are both so colorful. Other times they’re just odd matches. Here are six of the most interesting celebrity starter marriages.

It’s not uncommon for a celebrity to be married multiple times. The news is full of star couples getting divorced and remarrying. Hollywood starter marriages tend to be the most interesting. Here are a few that captured our attention.

Renee Zellweger & Kenny Chesney

This four-month-long marriage in 2005 is among the strangest of celebrity pairings. The Oscar-winning actress and the rowdy, frequently shirtless country singer seemed to be from different worlds. Other than the Jerry McGuire–inspired song You Had Me from Hello, Chesney wrote several years earlier, there was little evidence that the two should be together.

When it comes to flamboyant celebrity couples, it’s hard to beat the outrageous actor/comedian Russell Brand and saucy pop music princess Katy Perry, who married in 2010. The least surprising thing about this provocative union, which lasted less than two years, was the divorce in 2012.

Helen Hunt & Hank Azaria

The coupling of seemingly reserved Helen Hunt and exuberant Hank Azaria always appeared a little odd. Hunt and Azaria wed in 1999, after dating for years and working together on Hunt’s series Mad About You. When Hunt filed for divorce 17 months into the union, it was obvious their professional collaborations were more successful than their matrimonial ones.

Jennifer Garner & Scott Foley

It’s hard to believe Jennifer Garner was once hitched to clean-cut actor Scott Foley, in light of her more recent marriage to wild boy Ben Affleck. However, Garner and Foley, who married in 2000, did seem compatible at the time, so it was surprising when their marriage only lasted a little over three years.

This was one of the few celebrity couples who matched each other for charisma, talent, and popularity. But they did seem a little too good to be true and, as it turned out, they were. The pair, who tied the knot in 2008, called it quits in 2011, but neither wasted much time finding spouse number two.

Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Esposito

One the reasons it’s difficult to remember that these two acclaimed actors were married is because it was over so fast, lasting less than a year, and the other reason is that they just never seemed like a couple. The 2006-2007 marriage between the feisty Blue Bloods actress and the dashing movie heartthrob appeared badly cast from the beginning.
