Demi Lovato Calls Out Fan For Photoshopping Her Body, And It’s An Important Issue
by Hannah Marsh
We love that she is bringing awareness to body-shaming issues.
Photoshop isn’t just for magazines, as one fan artist learned. And Demi Lovato isn’t about to stay silent on the topic.
In July, 17-year-old fan artist Vladimir Serbanescu from Romania appeared to recreate an image from the Confident singer’s Instagram, “Body Say,” making her out to be a mermaid in the final sketch.
A few weeks later, Lovato came across the image, and while she did comment that she found the image to be gorgeous, she also made sure to call out the fact that it was not at all her body.

If i make your waist slimmer and your boobs bigger to accentuate the fact that i drew you as a mermaid, a mythological creature, doesn't mean I say that you should look like that or all girls should look like that. That's how i imagine mermaids. I worked a lot on that drawing and i was proud of it, but not anymore. @ddlovato. The coments are from @sexlikelovato_'s post #demilovato
While we, and many others, commend the singer for being relentless in her efforts to prevent body shaming from any person and/or entity, others were not so understanding. (TBH, they were absolutely cruel).
We don’t think Demi was out of line at all for bringing awareness to the unrealistic images that were meant to be portraying her body, especially since she has been notorious for openly discussing her ongoing recovery from an eating disorder. But the small incident has become a much larger controversy.
These are conversations that are worth having, however, and we’re glad the Heart Attack singer is challenging people at all levels to think twice about their actions.
