‘Girl Meets World’ Actress Rowan Blanchard Says She Identifies as ‘Queer’

The 14-year-old actress received some backlash for addressing her sexuality on social media.

Girl Meets World actress Rowan Blanchard recently spoke out about sexuality and how she doesn’t feel the need to “label” herself. According to Us Weekly, the 14-year-old actress said that she doesn’t consider herself to be “straight,” and that she actually identifies as “queer.” Although the teen admits that she has “only ever liked boys,” she says that she’d be open “liking any gender.”

“In my life — only ever liked boys. However I personally don’t wanna label myself as straight, gay or whateva [sic] so I am not gonna give myself labels to stick with — just existing ;),” Blanchard tweeted over the weekend.

“Yes, open to liking any gender in future is why I identify as queer,” Blanchard said in response to a fan who questioned her previous statement.

Rowan Blanchard was attacked for her statements on sexuality. According to Movie Pilot, the teen actress received a ton of negative backlash on social media. While she says that she felt as though she was being brave by addressing the somewhat controversial matter, she got hated on… big time.

“Like I thought I was being brave and was proud of myself and then everyone attacks me… Cool,” she tweeted after receiving some nasty messages.

According to Entertainment Weekly, this all started because Rowan Blanchard wanted there to be more representation of the LGBT community on her Disney Channel show, Girl Meets World.

“The 14-year-old actress, who’s made a name for herself as an outspoken supporter of intersectional feminism and helping teens find their voices, tweeted on Friday that she wants a visible LGBT presence on her show,” reported Entertainment Weekly.
