It’s a good time for Chrises in Hollywood—Hemsworth, Pine, O’Donnell, and of course Pratt and Evans—but there can only be one Hollywood ultimate action hero named Chris. We’ve narrowed it down to two, but who will be the victor?
Whether you’re a fan of Chris Evans as the hunky and dutiful super-soldier Captain America or Chris Pratt as the wisecracking intergalactic thief Star-Lord, it’s clear that both Chrises found great success in the Marvel fold. But which one is the ultimate Hollywood action star? There’s only one way to find out.
Superheroic Weapon of Choice
A hero is only as good as his weapon. While Star-Lord has a couple of cool tricks up his sleeve in the tech department, his weapons are basically limited to a pair of Kree submachine guns. Captain America, on the other hand, defends earth with an iconic, star-spangled, indestructible vibranium-steel shield.
Winner: Evans. While Pratt looks pretty bad-ass with a gun in each hand, Evans’s shield is the clear winner.
Superheroic Crime-Fighting Team
While we love the sarcastic antics of the Guardians of the Galaxy—Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax the Destroyer, and Gamora—it’s hard to compete with the all-powerful cast of The Avengers. I mean, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the incredible Hulk? That’s a team for the ages.
Winner: Evans. Sorry, Guardians, The Avengers have a god on their team.
Love Interest
Off-screen, Evans and Pratt could both be described as hopeless romantics. Even though Evans is reportedly single—and very awkward when discussing his love life—he is looking for a woman to settle down with. “I want to get married, though. I want children—to me that’s the ultimate thing,” he told People magazine. “When you’re old and on your deathbed looking back at your life, it’s not going to be the films you’ve made or what you’ve accomplished, it’s the relationships you have.” Of course, Pratt is happily married to Anna Faris (we’re jealous), and the two share an adorable son Jack.
Winner: Pratt. Ugh. His little family inspires some serious #relationshipgoals.
Charity
Both Chrises are regular contributors to foundations of their choosing. Evans has provided support for breast cancer care and Got Your 6, an organization that helps veterans become leaders in their community, while Pratt has given financial support to both Malaria No More and March of Dimes. However, the two joined forces before Super Bowl XLIX, making a bet that helped raise $27 thousand for Seattle Children’s Hospital and Christopher’s Haven in Boston. They even visited the children’s hospitals in costume, first in Boston with Pratt as Star-Lord and later with Evans as Captain America in Seattle.
Winner: Tie. Even though Evans technically won the bet, we’re going to go ahead and call this one a draw on account of awww.
Big Break
Every great Hollywood hero has a backstory, a time before they put on the mask. Our two favorite Chrises are no exception. Before he ever appeared on-screen, Evans was a model for Tyler in Hasbro’s board game Mystery Date, but he didn’t start getting acting roles until after his appearance in Not Another Teen Movie. Pratt, on the other hand, started in television as a regular on The WB’s drama Everwood. Despite many auditions and smaller appearances in movies, Pratt didn’t achieve stardom until audiences fell in love with Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation.
Winner: Evans. Um. He was a model for Mystery Date. Win.
Secret Musical Talent
We’ve all seen Pratt singing and playing guitar with Mouse Rat on Parks and Rec, but he’s also a big fan of hip-hop. In an interview on Whoolywood Shuffle, Pratt slays Eminem’s verse in “Forgot About Dre,” and it is incredible. While not as forthcoming with his musical talent, Evans comes from a whole family of actors and musicians. “There’s that secret song-and-dance, jazz-hands side of Chris,” close friend Scarlett Johansson says. “I feel like he grew up with the Partridge Family. He’d be just as happy doing Guys and Dolls as he would Captain America 2.”
Winner: Pratt. We’d love to see Captain America in Guys and Dolls, but we’re still not over Pratt’s surprise rap skills.
Close to Family
Famously close to his wife Anna Faris and son Jack, Pratt talks family with Carson Daly on the Today show: “He’s (Jack) so good, man. Family life is great. We just spent a week in Hawaii, and yeah, he’s so amazing. He’s so smart.” Equally close to his parents, two sisters, and younger brother, Evans comes from a boisterous Irish and Italian family from Boston. Even in an interview with Details, Evans’s mother Lisa was busting his chops.
Winner: Tie. Who are we to judge whose family is better? They’re both very #blessed men.
Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner: Chris Evans is officially DC’s Hollywood ultimate action hero named Chris, and he’s single. Now, who is moving to Boston?
