UPDATE 2: For the first time since the announcement of her divorce from Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie has come forward in an interview with BBC News to talk about the situation.
“I don’t want to say very much about that except that it was a very difficult time,” she explained. “We are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it.”

UPDATE: Several months following the news of their split, former power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt released a joint statement on Monday, Jan. 9 in regard to the privacy of their divorce and their family during this time.
“The parties and their counsel have signed agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family by keeping all court documents confidential and engaging a private judge to make any necessary legal decisions and to facilitate the expeditious resolution of any remaining issues,” their statement reads. “The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification.”
Jolie officially filed for divorce from Pitt back in September. The pair, who had been together since meeting on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2004 and recently celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary, has always been one of our favorite picture perfect power couples.
Jolie cited irreconcilable differences, reportedly due to conflicts over raising their kids. She is seeking full physical custody of the couple’s six children and for Pitt to be granted visitation.
While the couple has faced countless break-up rumors in the past, they have always seemingly come out on top as a united family. Jolie had previously praised Pitt for his parenting skills — a trait that seems to have changed in her eyes as this decision to file for divorce was solely over Pitt’s interactions with the kids, according to TMZ.
Pitt released a statement to People soon after the announcement stating, “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids” Both of the to-be exes are asking for privacy for the family during this time.
The internet, on the other hand, is having a heyday with Jennifer Aniston memes in regard to the situation. As you probably know, Pitt and Aniston split soon after Jolie came into the picture, divorcing after five years of marriage.

It’s going to be a while before we’re over what used to be our #RelationshipGoals couple, so until then you can find us watching Mr. and Mrs. Smith on repeat with a giant carton of ice cream in one hand and a box of tissues in the other.
