Kerry Washington Gracefully Comments on her Altered Appearance on Adweek’s Cover Image
by Faith Brar
First Amy Schumer and now Kerry Washington? Today’s biggest magazines seem to be under fire.
Yesterday, Scandal’s leading lady, Kerry Washington decided to bring attention to her altered appearance on the cover of Adweek that recently hit the stands. Like Amy Schumer, Washington took to her Instagram and shared the cover image along with a long caption expressing the frustration about how a magazine that doesn’t even primarily focus on beauty, still chose to make her look so different. “I’m no stranger to Photoshopping,” she says. “It happens a lot. In a way, we have become a society of photo adjusters – who doesn’t love a filter,” she jokes.
But ultimately she felt that neither the cover, nor the interview entirely encapsulated the essence of her as an actress and a person. “It felt strange to look at a picture of myself that is so different from what I look like when I look in the mirror,” she said. “It’s an unfortunate feeling.”
However, while openly admitting her disappointment, Washington still chose to voice her positive opinion about Adweek as a publication and encouraged people to grab a copy of the issue. She even thanked her fans for constantly supporting her and being patient while she figured out how to post such a sensitive issue in a way that felt “both celebratory and honest.” You go Kerry! Always ending everything on a positive note.
