Kim Kardashian Is Being Attacked Again — This Time By The Internet
The A-lister has received an insane amount of backlash in the days after her robbery in Paris…even though she was the one who was assaulted.
The recent attack on Kim Kardashian during her stay in Paris is still hitting newsrooms hard…however, it's not for the reasons you might think.
Kim Kardashian West was bound, gagged, and robbed at gunpoint by men posing as police officers in Paris earlier this week, and by all accounts, the story is truly horrifying. Allegedly, her omnipresent bodyguard Pascal Duvier was watching over Kardashian sisters Kourtney and Kendall while they were out on the town, while Kim was attacked during an event she's called "the worst moment of my life."
"They put plastic ties around her wrists, but she managed to squeeze her hands out of the wrist ties by wriggling her hands," a source close to Kardashian told PEOPLE. After escaping, a second source said that she "screamed from the balcony" for help. Sources have also said that the social media star told friends she feared she would be raped by her attackers, and a E! News reports that she will begin attending therapy sessions following the attack.
Even in light of this sobering news, many people around the globe are still questioning the credibility of the scandal, saying that it could be an elaborate stunt that the fashion icon and her husband used to gain media attention. The accusations themselves range in tone, from some simply questioning the details of the incident ("where is the security footage?"), to outright victim-blaming ("why was she alone?"), to claims that the entire ordeal was a hoax.
And then there are others who believe Kardashian was truly robbed, yet have also implied that the star had somehow brought the attack upon herself by maintaining a very active social media presence and by flaunting her lavish lifestyle and jewelry collection. If these comments don't define the extremely problematic victim-blaming culture we are living in, we're not sure what does.
Kim Kardashian is a living, breathing human being who went through a real (and extremely harrowing) experience. It seems like it's time for an attitude check when it comes to celebrity gossip. Treating anyone's traumatic experience like a joke––including a Kardashian's––only dehumanizes the victim further than they've already been subjected to. And we can all do better than that.
