Some of the best movies come from amazing books. Over the next year or so, film adaptations of some of your favorite books will be hitting theaters. If you haven’t all the tomes here, you might want to pick up a copy before these movies are released. We can’t wait!
The 9th Life Of Louis Drax
Actor Jamie Dornan portrays Dr. Allan Pascal who finds himself drawn into a mystery that tests what he knows of reality. The 9th Life Of Louis Drax is set to be released on September 2, 2016.
The Light Between Oceans
Director Derek Cianfrance brings M.L. Stedman’s novel to the big screen on September 2, 2016. The Light Between Oceans is a story about a lighthouse keeper and his wife who find an abandoned baby and raise it as their own. Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender play the lead roles in this highly anticipated film adaptation.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Who better to direct a movie based on such an incredibly eerie story than Tim Burton? On September 30, 2016, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is set to be one of the best films of the year. The novel, written by Ransom Riggs, tells the tale of a young boy named Jacob who follows clues that lead him to an abandoned orphanage—a home for “peculiar” children. The photos that he finds lead him to a portal and he has to decide whether to stay or go.
The Girl On The Train
On October 7, 2016, Paula Hawkins’ novel will come to life. Actress Emily Blunt plays the role of the curious and perceptive Rachel Watson. What starts off as a story about a woman’s life post-divorce, turns into a web of crazy connections and ends with a fairly big twist that you’d never see coming. This could be one of the biggest movies of 2016.
A Monster Calls
Lewis MacDougall plays the role of Connor O’Malley, a 13-year-old boy who is doing his best to cope with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) terminal cancer. While going through the unthinkable at home, Connor also deals with being bullied at school. One night, he encounters a monster (Liam Neeson) who tells him stories. The book-turned-film, written by Patrick Ness, will hit the big screen on October 14, 2016.
Inferno
Felicity Jones and Tom Hanks star in Inferno which will be released on October 28, 2016. Robert Langdon (Hanks) is suffering from amnesia but needs to help Dr. Brooks (Jones) stop a deadly global plot. Directed by Ron Howard, the Dan Brown novel-turned-movie will have you on the edge of your seat, even if you’ve already read the book.
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
J.K. Rowling has taken us back to where we all want to be! “Fantastic Beasts” tells the story of writer Newt Scamander who lived in New York and belonged to a secret community of witches and wizards 70 years before Harry Potter. You might remember that Harry and friends read the book at Hogwarts. Directed by David Yates (who also directed Harry Potter 5, 6, 7, & 8), the film stars Ezra Miller and Eddie Redmayne and will hit theaters on November 18, 2016.
The Circle
A release date for The Circle has not yet been announced but it is expected to hit theaters by the end of this year. The movie stars Tom Hanks and Emma Watson and tells the story of a woman named Mae Holland who gets involved with a mysterious man after accepting a job at a tech company (“The Circle”).
The Dark Tower
Idris Elba landed the lead role in this Stephen King story due out on February 17, 2017. The Dark Tower tells the story of a man in search of a dark tower in hopes that he will be able to save the world once he reaches it.
The Zookeeper’s Wife
Due out on March 31, 2017, The Zookeeper’s Wife tells the story of Warsaw Zookeepers, Jan (Johan Heldenbergh) and Antonina Zabinski (Jessica Chastain), who helped save hundreds of people during the Nazi invasion in the 1930’s. This true story written by Diane Ackerman tells of the incredible efforts put forth by Mr. and Mrs. Zabinski as pieced together from their recollections of what they went through, the people they met, and the lives they saved.
Looking For Alaska
Author John Green has done it again. Following his first novel turned movie (The Fault In Our Stars), Looking For Alaska will be released sometime in 2017. This is a story about a boy and a girl who meet and fall in love at boarding school. The film, directed by Rebecca Thomas, does not yet have an official cast but rumors about who might play the role of Alaska Young have been swirling for months. Chloe Grace Moretz and Taylor Swift are supposedly in the running, according to Teen.com.
Eleanor & Park
According to Entertainment Weekly, DreamWorks Studios picked up the rights to the film back in 2014. An essential summer read for those who enjoy reading about young love, Eleanor & Park tells the story of two high school outcasts who fall in love.
The Divergent Series: Ascendant
The second part of the Divergent series final book (“Allegiant”) will be released as a movie on June 9, 2017. Everything that you’ve been waiting for—and a lot more of Four (Theo James) and Tris (Shailene Woodley)—will play out as the series comes to a close. Tears will be flowing as you watch the fates of these characters come to fruition next summer. There is chatter that the final installment of Divergent will be released as a TV movie, but nothing has been set in stone just yet.
The Mountain Between Us
On October 20, 2017, the story of two strangers who survived a plane crash in the mountains will be in theaters. Audiences will be swept into this tale of survival and love as told by author Charles Martin.
Ready Player One
This Steven Spielberg-directed film is set to hit theaters on March 30, 2018. Based upon Ernest Cline’s novel by the same name, the movie is about a young man named Wade Watts who loves playing a video game called “The Oasis.” When the creator of the game dies, there is a contest of sorts to win his millions. Watts finds himself in a major faceoff that extends past the video game world. In “Ready Player One,” people will do just about anything to win.
