5 Reasons Why Netflix’s ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ Will Be Horribly Amazing

The series isn’t available until January, but we’re already counting down the days.

Two teasers for Netflix’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events series have been released, and while Snicket, played by Patrick Warburton, begs us to avoid the “cruel whimsy and whimsical cruelty of what’s to come,” we will be doing the exact opposite. The teasers (of which one includes a box of “Very Flammable Dandelions”) are definitely doing their job of getting us stoked.

While not all of the information regarding the famed series has been released yet, here are five reasons we’re already excited to watch.

1. Neil Patrick Harris

Honestly, though, need we say more? The How I Met Your Mother star has the personality and acting abilities to do every bit as funny as serious, so mixing the two in this series should be no problem! While we love NPH as Barney in HIMYM, we’re ecstatic to see the still funny, but slightly darker side of him in these episodes.

2. No Two-Hour Cram-Session Here!

The entire series is 13 books worth of dark and depressing adventures for the Baudelaire orphans. Personally, we think this means that the 2004 two-hour movie adaptation of the books was not nearly enough time to truly bring these (some beloved, some not-so-beloved) characters to life. Through eight full-length episodes, we’re banking on Netflix giving us plenty of time to immerse ourselves in the overdramatic shenanigans all of the characters find themselves a part of!

3. Lemony Snicket’s (Slightly Sick) Sense of Humor

Lemony Snicket, the pen name for real-life author and one of the executive producers for the series Daniel Handler, is quite possibly one of the most twisted and dark-humored narrators of our childhood. But his obscure descriptions make it a series that we aren’t just anticipating for our middle-school selves, but as adults who enjoy a sense of humor as dry as our martinis.

4. Kronk

Maybe it’s just us, but Warburton as Kronk from “The Emporer’s New Groove,” was extremely underrated. While we’re going to probably have trouble separating the Lemony Snicket actor from the voice of the hilarious accomplice in the Disney animation, there’s for sure a level of excitement that comes from having Warburton star in two of our childhood faves!

5. Its Perfect Release Date

How absolutely fitting that the series will be available for streaming on Friday the 13th of January 2017. TBH, it would have probably been a disappointment if it were set for any other day of the year. While true-to-form Lemony Snicket continues to beg us to not watch the series saying, “Don’t make the same mistake Netflix has, and look away before this dire tale is even filmed,” we of course already have the date circled in red on our calendars, all set to once again immerse ourselves in the unfortunate adventures of our favorite Baudelaire orphans.
