5 Things You Need To Know About New SNL Cast Member Melissa Villaseñor

From ‘America’s Got Talent’ to ‘Saturday Night Live,’ this Latina is about to take the comedy world by storm.

If you haven’t heard of Melissa Villaseñor yet (and we do mean “yet”), allow us to introduce you to one of the newest cast members of Saturday Night Live and a woman who has just barely scratched the surface in the world of comedy that she is sure to make her mark in.

1. She Is SNL‘s First Latina Cast Member

Finally! In 42 years on-air, SNL has never had a Latina cast member, and Villaseñor is making history with this move. After headlining countless comedy clubs and stand-up shows around the nation, Villaseñor is hoping to open more doors for other Latina comedians. As impressions of Sofía Vergara, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are often seen on the show, it’s about time SNL got onboard in their representation of the Latinx community.

2. You Probably Recognize Her From America’s Got Talent

Arguably one of Villaseñor’s most notable claims-to-fame was her accomplishment as a Top 16 Finalist on the sixth season of NBC’s America’s Got Talent. Villaseñor hooked the audience with her celebrity impressions of Miley Cyrus, Kathy Griffin, Natalie Portman, Barbara Walters, and even adding in a fumbled Star-Spangled Banner in an impression of Christina Aguilera.

3. Her Singing Isn’t All For Laughs

While she’s all about making us chuckle, she has also seriously impressed us with the natural singing talent that peeks through some of her best impressions. For instance, she absolutely kills it this cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” and that is most definitely not an easy feat.

4. She Has Brought Michael Jackson Back From The Dead… Kind Of

Villaseñor’s celebrity impressions are what she is most known for in her stand-up performances, but we can’t get enough of her thrilling Michael Jackson impersonations. From the songs to his signature moonwalk, she nails it every. Single. Time.

5. She Has Already Been On SNL… Well, At Least She Has Impersonated Someone Who Has

Villaseñor took to her YouTube channel to creatively do an impression of former SNL cast member Kristin Wiig, and it’s perfect. Wiig’s quirky little traits are subtle, but Villaseñor seems to catch them all in her hilarious video. If she is already this fantastic at impersonating one of our favorite SNL veterans, there is no doubt in our minds that this show is exactly where she belongs.
