9 Times Celebs Made Amazing Live TV Fails

The funny, the embarrassing, and the cringe-worthy.

The lights, the cameras, the screw-ups! Even celebrities have embarrassing moments, and we collected the most hilarious and unfortunate live TV moments of our time. These 9 celebrity fails will make you feel better about that time you face-planted in front of everyone—we promise.

1. Ashlee Simpson on SNL
How could we forget the time Ashlee Simpson performed on Saturday Night Live and was caught lip-syncing? In 2004, the singer had just finished performing her hit, “Pieces of Me,” and was about to move on to sing “Autobiography.” The only problem? A recording of Simpson singing “Pieces of Me” began to play again, while her microphone was obviously at her side. Unsure of what to do, she started dancing uncomfortably before she just walked offstage completely. She later apologized on live TV, blaming her band for the mishap, which honestly just made us cringe even more.

2. Justin Bieber in Arizona
On the first night of his Believe tour in 2012, Justin Bieber surprised everyone—but in a horribly gastric way. In the middle of performing “Out of Town Girl,” the heartthrob puked all over center stage. His backup dancers stopped at nothing, and as Bieber ran offstage, they continued to dance, vomit and all. As if that wasn’t horrifying enough, Bieber threw up a second time during the show, blaming it on bad milk. Thankfully for Justin, his devoted Beliebers still love him anyway.

3. Lauren Alaina on Thanksgiving
Singers can’t catch a break. In 2011 at a nationally televised Packers-Lions game, American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina forgot the lyrics to the national anthem. The nation watched in awe as Alaina froze during the Thanksgiving day game, only making it as far as, “what so proudly we hailed” before forgetting the lyrics. Following a brief pause, she regained her memory and finished “The Star-Spangled Banner,” to everyone’s relief.

4. Miss Utah Marissa Powell
Marissa Powell, who is an actress, singer, and model, has also performed the national anthem for thousands of people. But apparently, one question is all it takes to trip her up. During the 2013 Miss USA beauty pageant, Miss Utah caught everyone’s attention, but not in a good way. Powell was asked a question about income equality, and as she stumbled through her response, the entire state of Utah was probably cringing. We get that it’s a lot of pressure, and that you’re competing to be Miss USA, and that millions of people are watching, but you seriously couldn’t come up with anything other than “create education better”?!

5. Steve Harvey at the Miss Universe Pageant
Speaking of the biggest pageant flubs of all time, Steve Harvey takes the cake. At the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, Steve Harvey made a mistake that was heard ’round the world. He announced the winner as Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, when the actual winner was Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach. The world watched as the winner’s crown, sash, and bouquet was taken from Miss Colombia and halfheartedly given to Miss Philippines. The image of Steve Harvey fumbling back onstage to correct his mistake is still burned in our minds.

6. Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl

Who could forget the incident at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, sometimes referred to as “Nipplegate,” when Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake performed “Rock Your Body.” As Timberlake reached the final note, he pulled off a piece of Jackson’s costume, revealing her naked breast to an estimated 143 million viewers. According to Jackson’s publicist, the action was meant to reveal only Jackson’s red bra underneath, but a “wardrobe malfunction” resulted in the entire thing coming off. Since then, the incident has inspired numerous performances, songs, and TV episodes. Sorry, Ms. Jackson.

7. Kendall Jenner at the Billboard Music Awards
Kendall Jenner obviously had Harry Styles on her mind when she accidentally introduced the band 5 Seconds of Summer as One Direction during the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. When she realized her mistake, she giggled uncomfortably and apologized, saying, “Guys, I’m the worst reader.” In February, Khloe Kardashian confirmed that her baby sis was dating Harry Styles, but the rumors are still up in the air.

8. Jennifer Lawrence at the Oscars
Why is it that JLaw’s tripping mishaps only make us love her even more? At the 2013 Oscars, she tripped on the stairs on her way up to accept her award for best actress. A year later when Ellen Degeneres hosted the Oscars in 2014, she teased Lawrence, saying, “if you win tonight, I think we should bring you the Oscar.” Degeneres was unaware at the time, but JLaw had actually taken another spill just hours before, getting out of her limo and onto the red carpet. Jennifer Lawrence is probably the only person who can make falling look so adorable.

9. John Travolta
“Adele Dazeem” has basically become a family name. Good thing for JLaw, John Travolta got most of the media attention at the 2014 Oscars for his infamous mistake. He was introducing Idina Menzel to sing “Let it Go” from “Frozen,” and he completely butchered her name in front of thousands of viewers. When asked about the hilarious mishap, Travolta gave some advice that each of these celebs could use to get past their fails: “I’ve been beating myself up all day. Then I thought…what would Idina Menzel say? She’d say, ‘Let it go, let it go!’ “
