by Effie Orfanides
After Bindi Irwin won ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ she talked about her late father and hoped he would be proud of the young woman that she has become.
On Tuesday night, Bindi Irwin was crowned the winner of Dancing With The Stars. During the after-show press conference, Bindi talked about the experience and her late father, Steve Irwin. According to People Magazine, Bindi, 17, honored her dad quite a few times throughout the season, dedicating dances to him and keeping his memory in her heart as she learned to ballroom dance with pro-teacher Derek Hough.
“I couldn’t even imagine if [he] was here right now. Honestly, I hope that he’d be proud of me. And I hope that I am able to carry on in his footsteps and make sure that his legacy lives on. His strength is what keeps me going. Life is filled with so many challenges and beautiful moments and to be able to share them with my family and the ones that you love the most. That’s what’s most important,” Bindi said.
Bindi was loved by every single person (literally!) on the show and she touched the hearts of viewers all over the country. Her positive attitude is what won the hearts of those who got to know her on the season, including (but certainly not limited to) Derek Hough, judge Bruno Tonioli, and host Tom Bergeron. She lit up the ballroom each week, wearing a bright smile as she consistently challenged herself to do better. Everyone was just so proud of this lady!
After her Mirror Ball win, Bindi’s boyfriend, Chandler Powell posted a heartfelt, congratulatory message on Instagram.
“Congratulations, Bindi! I’ve never seen anyone work as hard as you have and it all paid off. Three months without taking a single day off! You deserve this,” he captioned a photo from the Dancing With The Stars finale.
According to Us Weekly, Bindi had a wonderful time on the show and is grateful for every moment, but she is a bit happy that it’s all over.
“Honestly, I’m excited to get back into my khakis and be with the animals again,” she said shortly after finding out that she had won. Of course, no one expected her to be sad, did they? Congrats, Bindi!
