Emma Stone Confirmed to Play Fur-Obsessed Villainess Cruella de Vil

“If she doesn’t scare you, no evil thing will.”
Disney is continuing the live-action train with a film we’ve been waiting to see since 1996: the story behind style-mogul and puppy-hater Cruella de Vil. Like 2014’s Maleficent before it, Cruella is described as an origin story for one of Disney’s most memorable villainesses. The casting has been rumored as early as January, but today we got official word, Hollywood darling Emma Stone will play the Dalmatian-crazed fashion icon.
Following in the footsteps of Glenn Close’s live-action Cruella in 101 Dalmatians and sequel 102 Dalmatians, Stone will assume the roll sometime in the next three years. (Ugh. That’s so far away!)
Luckily, Disney has plenty of live-action remakes slated to keep us busy. Of course, Jungle Book is in theaters now, but it will be followed by a sequel in the next few years. Maleficent 2 is also on the books. But the future isn’t just for sequels. We can also look forward to a Tim Burton remake of Dumbo, a modern take on the old classic A Wrinkle In Time, and even another Mary Poppins. Poppins is perfectly cast as Emily Blunt.
While we won’t see Stone as Cruella for a few years, she will appear in the upcoming musical La La Land, which hits theaters in December.
