Professional ‘The Bachelor’ Runner-Up Nick Viall Will Be the Star of the Show

Hopefully fourth time is a charm for Nick Viall, who was just announced as the new 'The Bachelor.' Nick has been on Andi's season, Kaitlyn's season, and now on 'Bachelor in Paradise.'

Surprise! ProfessionalThe Bachelor runner-up will get his shot as the star. Nick Viall will be the next 'The Bachelor' for season 21. (Yes, 21.)

All bets were on JoJo's contestants Luke Pell or Chase McNary for the major role, but former show villain-turned-fan favorite Viall shocked audiences at the live Bachelor in Paradise: After Paradise show with the announcement.

Thirty-five-year-old Viall first appeared on Andi Dorfman's season of The Bachelorette, losing to the now-hated Josh Murray in the final two. During Kaitlyn Bristowe's season, he showed up to again get the silver medal, losing to Kaitlyn's now-fiance Shawn Booth. Currently, Viall is on Bachelor in Paradise, and he seems to have his heart stolen by Ben Higgins' contestant Jen Saviano, but, um, spoiler, that probably won't work out.

"He has just become that perennial, second place guy who wants to find love and is as sincere, if not more sincere, than anybody about finding it," Chris Harrison told People about the choice of Bachelor. "It's about giving him his chance to find love. Who deserves it more than him?"

Public perception of Viall has taken a huge 180 since his first appearance, for sure. Fans turned on him after he called out Dorfman on live TV for having sex with him in the fantasy suite (which he referred to as "making love") and then breaking up with him. Now, in Paradise, Viall is emerging as the fan favorite for calling out alleged emotional abuser Murray, befriending the Twins, and having hilarious, on-point commentary in his interviews.

The rest of Bachelor Nation seems to be on board with The Bachelor's choice.

Hopefully this time around, Viall doesn't come in second place.
