Top 3 Moments From That Crazy ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Premiere

You won't want to miss out on Monday night's drama.

Season 23 of Dancing With The Stars premiered in a less-than-subtle way last evening. We laughed, we cried, we watched people get arrested; it was truly an eventful debut to what promises to be an entertaining season. If you missed the unveiling of the new season, below are the top three need-to-know moments from Monday night's happenings.

1. Laurie Hernandez Dominates Her Routine, Of Course

Nothing really new to report when it comes to Laurie Hernandez — we're still obsessed. While the Olympic medalist obviously still has some room for improvements — it's the first episode for goodness sakes — her foxtrot with Val Chmerkovskiy had us captivated throughout the entire dance. Her spunk, those moves, and that vibrant smile — ugh. We can't get enough of this "American Treasure."

2. Ryan Lochte Protestors Storm the Stage

After a fun Foxtrot performance with partner Cheryl Burke, six-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte was shown much less love than his fellow Olympic competitor when protestors wearing anti-Lochte t-shirts walked on stage in front of the cameras. While the cameras cut out before viewers of the live broadcast saw all the commotion, ABC released an unaired video of the drama. Burke was witnessed crying after the incident, and a shaken-up Lochte told E! News later on in the night that it felt "like someone reached inside and ripped my heart out and stepped on it."

3. Vanilla Ice Goes Back to His Roots

While it might not have had quite enough of the actual cha cha dance in it for the judges, Vanilla Ice made his DWTS debut in a throwback his own mega-hit and dance party-favorite "Ice Ice Baby." The audience was on their feet after the performance (as were we), however he and partner Witney Carson scored a mere 25/40 points from the judges for lack of more real dancing content.
