Totally Fetch: Two ‘Mean Girls’ Alums Get Engaged
by Chad Taylor
Mean Girls stars Lizzie “Janis Ian” Caplan and Daniel “Damien” Franzese both announce engagements.
If you have been keeping one eye your “sad celebrity news” trending topics lately, you are already well aware of the fact that things haven’t been all that super for Lindsay Lohan lately… or maybe ever. Luckily, the REST of the Mean Girls cast is pretty much killing it lately. Case in point: in-film besties Lizzy Caplan and Daniel Franzese are getting engaged. Not to each other—the world couldn’t handle that level of happiness—but also because Damien really IS almost too gay to function.
This week, Caplan, who played Mean Girls‘ tortured artist Janis Ian, announced that she has been engaged to Tom Riley since May. A cursory perusing of IMDb says that Riley is an actor, best known for his roles in the popular Jerry series of film shorts in 1917. But that’s probably not him. A slightly more investigative look shows that he is a British actor, best known for playing Leonardo Da Vinci in Starz original series Da Vinci’s Demons. Though Caplan admitted the engagement went down a couple months ago, the pair managed to keep the news under wraps until Caplan was photographed at a grocery store conspicuously wearing her engagement ring.
Meanwhile, Franzese—Caplan’s Mean Girls bestie Damien—proposed to his boyfriend of two years just this week, choosing to have the deed go down at the North Hollywood Starbucks where the two first met. Franzese had a friend capture the moment on video, which has since been posted to the actor’s YouTube page. The video itself is completely adorable and we’re always happy to see two people basking in one another’s happiness. Also of note: Starbucks is apparently still trying to make Ethos Water happen (it’s never going to happen).
Neither couple has announced a wedding date yet, leaving open the possibility of a completely amazing double-wedding extravaganza, but it is presumed that both will instead opt for more private ceremonies for their closest friends and family. But still: DOUBLE WEDDING EXTRAVAGANZA!
And none for Gretchen Wieners.
