Adele’s New Album ’25’ Features Revenge Song About Her Ex-Boyfriend
by Effie Orfanides
Adele has taken a page from Taylor Swift’s songbook, penning an angry ode to a former love.
Adele is getting set to release her new album, 25, and has given some insight into a couple of the songs during recent interviews. One track in particular is about Adele’s ex-boyfriend and has been dubbed a “revenge song.” The song is called “Send My Love (to Your New Lover),” and was written about the same guy that inspired many of the tracks on Adele’s 2011 album, 21.
“This is my f***-you song. It sounds obvious, but I think you only learn to love again when you fall in love again. I’m in that place. My love is deep and true with my man, and that puts me in a position where I can finally reach out a hand to the ex. Let him know I’m over it,” Adele told The Guardian.
Adele is known for drawing on her personal life experiences when it comes to penning lyrics. The emotion that she is able to put behind her music in pretty incredible—and relateable. This, of course, is just one of the reasons that Adele is so wildly popular. Her amazing voice is another.
While there will undoubtedly be tracks on 25 that will be heartbreaking and thought provoking (not unlike the album’s first single, “Hello”), the album has a different vibe overall.
“There’s none of the tight-jawed breakup analysis Adele has become known for. Where 21 sounded as if it was written while cradling an open wound, 25 comes over more like the study of interesting scars,” reports The Guardian.
Adele is very careful about how much of her personal life she shares, but she knows that some of her songs could test the boundaries of her marriage. According to Us Weekly, the songstress’ husband, Simon Konecki, is completely supportive of his wife’s career, and doesn’t freak out over any lyrics that are about other relationships or other men.
“My man is loyal. My man is strong. So we spoke early on, and he said, ‘Your writing isn’t anything to do with me.’ He’s fine with it. And it takes a strong man, I think, to be like that,” she said.
Adele’s 25 will be released on Friday, Nov. 20. Fans looking for more before the album’s release date can hear a snippet from the track, “When We Were Young” by clicking here. The album will be available for purchase on iTunes and in stores, but, according to the Independent, will not be available on streaming services such as Spotify.
