Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift Officially Call It Quits
There's trouble in Hiddleswift paradise as both sides have reported discord in the relationship.
After hours of speculation (Did they? Didn't they? Will they? Won't they? Is true love real? What does Calvin Harris think about this?) People reports that the rumors are indeed true, citing a source who says "It was an amicable split."
Whether this "source" is accurate or not, we can certainly agree with this one point: "Taylor is an independent young woman and doesn't feel like she needs a boyfriend to make her complete."
Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston's surprise relationship nearly broke the Internet earlier this summer, but the two haven't been photographed together since July. According to The Daily Mail (so, you know, take it with a grain of salt), a source close to the celeb couple reports that Hiddleston invited Swift to the Emmys, but the pop megastar was concerned about him making the relationship so public, preferring to "keep her private life private."
"Tom's need for their relationship to be so public so quickly makes her uncomfortable. She tried to be OK with it in the beginning but fears he is in love with the idea of her and not falling in love with her for the right reasons," the unnamed source says, stealing a tagline from The Bachelor.
Of course, Tay's private life is never going to be private if the paparazzi have anything to say about it, but it's an interesting twist in the Hiddleswift romance rumors, as the world spent so much time speculating whether the coupling was only for show. Some Hiddleswift truthers believed their PDA was an elaborate punk, only for a long-form music video a la Beyonce's Lemonade, despite Hiddleston speaking out to the contrary.
While the prank theory has mostly been put to bed, there is some credence to the rocky relationship rumors. Swift has never brought a boyfriend to a red carpet event, despite her several high-profile relationships. She prefers to bring her #Squad along, taking the badass path to choose her female friends over her male partners.
So if Hiddleston wanted to walk arm and arm with Swift at the Emmys—he's nominated for his role in The Night Manager—it would be breaking one of her public rules.
