As usual, the outrageous performances at Sunday night’s MTV Music Video Awards have overshadowed the red carpet fashion (thanks a lot, Miley!), but we haven’t forgotten what matters most. Singer and actress Selena Gomez, 21, looked stunning on the red carpet in this gorgeous Versace dress. It’s hard to believe this is the same girl who got her start on Barney and Friends! Justin Bieber, eat your heart out.

 

Good: Taylor Swift

23-year-old musician Taylor Swift rocked a glam 1920s vibe at the VMAs, and we’ve got to admit she’s looking better than ever! The star, who usually opts for flowy pastel numbers, was definitely turning heads in this low-cut navy Hervé Léger by Max Azria gown.

 

Meh: Jennifer Hudson

Actress and singer Jennifer Hudson, 31, looked okay at the VMAs, but honestly—we expected more. The American Idol superstar’s body is more bangin’ than ever, but the gathered waist on the leather skirt is far from flattering. Better luck next year!

 

Bad: Katy Perry

28-year-old popstar Katy Perry is known for her adventurous fashion, but this number fell flat. Mostly because model Coco Rocha wore the same Emanuel Ungaro dress to the Met Gala months ago! We love the cat print, but we hate the copycatting.

 

Worse: Miley Cyrus

20-year-old megastar Miley Cyrus did a lot of weird stuff at the VMAs, and although this bejeweled Dolce & Gabbana number was probably the least of her worries, it’s still pretty bad. She did have the most unique accessory of the night though: Her tongue made an appearance pretty much every five seconds.

 

Worst: Nicole Polizzi

25-year-old Jersey Shore star Nicole Polizzi (AKA “Snooki”) has never been the most fashion-forward girl on the red carpet, but this look is particularly bad. Not only is it ill-fitting and unflattering, but it’s a dated look that’s been done a million times. Anybody who went to prom in the ’90s knows what I’m talking about.
